Good Full Faced Helmets?

Recommended Posts

I got the FreeZR in the mail on Tuesday. It has the best field of vision I have jumped to date. I also had issues with the helmet moving around a little when diving at a formation and when tracking off at break off time. I did a little mixing and matching of the liners and the problem went away completely. I have only put 4 jumps on it to date. When I have more jumps on it I'll post a full report, but all the erarly stuff looks really really good.

About the Havok...
I put the helmet on in the plane, then flip the visor down just before jump run! It's nice because you can talk to people you are jumping with up until the last minute, then flip it down!. I think it's funny that people think it's "OVA engineered" What a load a crap!.....people who say these things are usually jumping with Gath helmets.:P

I agree...I LOVE my Havok. Very comfortable on the ride up, it's not 'claustrophobic' because the whole face flips up, and I can wear the face up or down for landing, either way. VERY snug fit that feels nice in freefall...and protects yer noggin' well!

He he hee...yes, I look like a storm trooper in it...;) and no, I don't walk around wearing it flipped up 'cause it does look silly!! :P

I guess I have to wonder why the makers of skydiving helmets don't put in the energy absorbing foam. There's plenty of room inside and Oxygn, for example, but the padding they use is far from ideal.

I have wondered about (but not yet done anything about) scavenging the foam from a Protec and transplanting it to my Oxygn.

Both the Oxygn and my Z1 have done a pretty good job with door-frame encounters doing 10-way speed, and I suppose that kind of impact is what they are designed for.

I thought about doing something similar.

When I last looked at this Oregon Aero offered liner upgrade fitting but it was expensive and limited (from memory). It is absolutely incredible that people sitting in a room designing helmets don't seem to have this on their to-do list. :-(

I have a FreeZR that works well with my glasses. Someone in another thread recommended to try on different helmets. This is so true. You will see what works for your head. If you get a FreeZR be gentle when opening the visor. It tends to crack if you are not careful. It cost $60 to replace. I PM’d you a guy who did a design on my helmet. Good luck!
