CornishChris 5 #1 December 14, 2003 OK. So jumped a rig with collapsible slider for the first time yesterday. Was happy to collapse it but the owner told me to stow it behind my head aftrwards. i was a bit wary of pulling the slider down over my brakes - is this what I was meant to do? I can't see any other way to stick it behind your head unless you do - I assume this will not cause problems... CJP Gods don't kill people. jerry81 10 #2 December 14, 2003 Yup. Collapse it, pull it over the brakes, stow it and then unstow the brakes. You'll be fine as long as you're not careless and knock a brake out while you're pulling the slider down. This (along with untightening your chest strap) allows the canopy to spread out more and be a more efficient wing.
skybytch 273 #3 December 14, 2003 You don't have to pull the slider behind your head. Do it if you want to, don't do it if you don't want to. Definitely collapse it, though.
towerrat 0 #4 December 14, 2003 I don't always pull mine behind my neck. It can be collapsed and left above the risers, especially if you don't have slinks. I sometimes feel like I can't see well if it's behind me as it partially blocks my veiw.Play stupid games, win stupid prizes!
Kris 0 #5 December 14, 2003 One thing to be aware of though, make sure your slider bumpers are good and make sure that the grommets on the slider don't have any nicks or gouges on them. If the grommets are damaged, they can damage the lines as it flaps in the wind. As Lisa said, it's your choice to pull it down behind your head or not.Sky, Muff Bro, Rodriguez Bro, and Bastion of Purity and Innocence!™

freebird185 0 #7 December 15, 2003 Actually wasn’t there an incident some time ago where the jumper had his steering line entangled with the slider garment somehow and he didn’t give a proper flare? I believe he had mini risers, but he was not in the habit of pulling the slider past the toggles. While I don’t like the blind spot that the collapsed slider makes when putting it behind your head, I think if the slider is able to be pulled past the toggles it should be to prevent entanglement, otherwise you should have something to keep the slider from falling past the top of the risers. If we trained monkeys to pack, would you jump their pack jobs? dragon2 2 #9 December 15, 2003 QuoteOK. So jumped a rig with collapsible slider for the first time yesterday. I can't see any other way to stick it behind your head unless you do - I assume this will not cause problems... If that slider can come down on it's own, maybe because you have minilinks and big grommets or have slinks without bumpers, then you're better off pulling the slider down (before releasing the brakes!). If you don't, it may come down later. Mine did, 3 times, of which 2 < 1000 ft. Not funny! Had to correct a turn during flaring because the slider came down asymmetrically and trapped the right steering line a bit. So I got really short risers for my main rig so I could reach the slider and put slider bumpers on my other rig to keep the slider up. Now I purchased another set of really short risers but haven't put them on yet. Got annoyed by the constant flapping noise of a slider I can't reach... I think if you really don't want to get the slider down, for instance some toggle systems are fairly big so getting the grommets to pass those is difficult withour releasing the brakes first, you may want to collapse the slider. I think it stays up better that way but not sure. Anyway you get rid of the flapping noise and it reduces wear and tear... ciel bleu, Saskia
