beej 0 #1 December 17, 2003 I used to have a teardrop SF container, I now live in Texas, and Iam looking to buy a new container, I was wondering if the teardrop would be practical to own over here (regarding repacks and tso's etc), or should I keep it simple by aiming for a wings container (good price also)? thanks ---------------------------------------------------- If the shit fits - wear it (blues brothers)--

rigging65 0 #3 December 17, 2003 There's nothing wrong with a Teardrop. Any good rigger should be able to handle it. You might want to secure a manual to let your rigger use...in case they haven't got one or seen one before. The wings is a great rig too. Not my personal favorite, but there is certainly nothing wrong with it! I think you'll be just fine with either... Remster 30 #4 December 17, 2003 I'm pretty sure the SF is TSOed (thats easy to check for you on the warning label). If it is, then no reason to spend more money to get anothe rig IMO... They're pretty nice rigs.Remster

SkydiveMonkey 0 #6 December 17, 2003 The British ones are. Don't know about the SA ones though. PISA were in the process of getting the US TSO for it when they got taken over.____________________ Say no to subliminal messages

SkydiveMonkey 0 #8 December 18, 2003 It's got all the TSO bumpf on it, but I was under the impression it wasn't valid in the US?____________________ Say no to subliminal messages
Remster 30 #9 December 18, 2003 My understanding is that if its TSOed under the FAA standards, its TSO'ed. Period. Other countries have standards they also call TSO, so it may confuse the issue.Remster
beej 0 #10 December 18, 2003 My first post said I 'used' to have a teardrop. So I cannot check the label etc. I know they are tso'd, but as someone as already mentioned, different countries my have different rules..since I live here now in the USA, I am not a 'visiting' jumper with foreign gear.. I am on the market for a new container, I would like a TD, simply cos i loved the old one I had, but if there is a tso issue - the wings or the new icon seem tempting.. ---------------------------------------------------- If the shit fits - wear it (blues brothers)--
Remster 30 #11 December 19, 2003 Oops... lol QuoteQuote -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I'm pretty sure the SF is TSOed -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It is... Well, if Ryan says its TSOed, its a good start. Just email the chapies at Thomas Sport and get the official line then. http://www.thomas-sports.com/Remster

Other countries have standards they also call TSO, so it may confuse the issue. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Period! First, all the foreign-made gear that has the letters "TSO" on the label complies exactly with USA Federal Aviation Administration Type Standard Order C23 ? and the factory is inspected every year by the FAA. In a few other countries (Australia, Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Honduras, Mauritius, South Africa, etc.) local airworthiness authorities (i.e. Transport Canada) inspect production facilities for compliance with TSOs written by the FAA. European EASA JAR-21. JTSO are close copies of FAA TSO. The rest of the planet is slowly adopting American standards for designing and manufacturing parachutes. beej 0 #15 December 21, 2003 Is there any reason why the Teardrop is not marketed here in the USA? For example, the TD is very popular in Europe, but so is the Javelin - which is US made. ---------------------------------------------------- If the shit fits - wear it (blues brothers)--

You guys probably know this already. Both containers are made by Brits (WOO HOO), who are brothers. BuzzIt's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.
