rdesilets 0 #1 December 30, 2003 I posted that I wanted to sell my sabre 2 150 (20 jumps). A person responded and is interested in buying it. Very cool. I am in Mass, she is in Oregon. Naturally, this person wants her rigger to check it out (very understandable) to make sure the main is in the condition I say it is (new). Where do we go from here. Its a catch 22, as I am reluctant to ship it without a cashiers check for fear or never seeing the $ or my main again. She is probably reluctant to ship $ for fear of never seeing the main or her $. Please advise I am new to selling gear to someone not local.. but of course it is done all the time. -Rob

jedeisurf 0 #3 December 30, 2003 When I buy used gear I will have it shipped C.O.D. just to make sure what is in the box is what it should be. You may tell your buyer that you will not cash the check until their rigger does the inspection. Or you could use a third party escrow service. David but with COD you pay and then get to open the box. you dont get to look in the box first and then decline it. atleast thats how it used to be... the person i bought my rig from used my DZ as the middleman. it was sent there and i picked it up then sent him the money through paypal. .-. AndyMan 7 #5 December 30, 2003 I sold a container recently through the DZ.com classifieds. I asked his DZO to be the middleman, I shipped the container to him, and asked him to ensure I got a check. I'd never met the DZO, but trusted him solely on the basis of him not wanting to damage his reputation. _Am__ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead. nightjumps 1 #6 December 30, 2003 Most DZ's will act as a middleman. We do. You send it to us and we hold the money. No charge. You/Rigger inspect. You like, we send the check. You no like, we send it back. One caveat. You jump it, you burn it, you've bought it.
TALONSKY 0 #7 December 30, 2003 I have bought gear on line a few times. The first time I bought a canopy COD. The next time I asked if we could use my local DZ rigger as the middle man. (They contacted the rigger and sent him the canopy, The rigger checked it out I handed the rigger a check and he handed me the canopy). This last time I had it sent COD. I feel the most secure way is using the DZ/rigger as middle man. In the end someone has to take a small leap of faith. Kirk
dragon2 2 #8 December 30, 2003 How about shipping overseas? I got someone interested in a canopy I'm selling. But the buyer wants it checked out by their rigger. I'm not willing to ship the thing halfway across the world for nothing... I offered to have it checked out by MY rigger, or by someone from Icarus itself if that guy shows up at our DZ again in time. How would you handle this?? I did buy a canopy over the internet from the States once, unseen, sent money first. But it wasn't much money so I thought I'd give it a try. Turned out the canopy was alright, however instead of a 'Triathlon' it turned out to be a 'Triathlon hybrid' which surprised me Well I happened to be looking for one in that size but had already given up on finding one cheap. Now it fell into my lap Still think ya might want to say something in the add tho ciel bleu, Saskia
EricaH 0 #9 December 30, 2003 In addition to using a middle man, you could have the seller sign something to this fact & fax their sig to you (a faxed sig is as valid as an original). "I, (name here) have received check number XX in the amount of $xxxxx as payment for the sale of (insert goods). It is my understanding that the purchaser, (name here) will have the item(s) inspected. Upon direction from the purchaser I may cash said check. However, if no word to the contrairy is received from the purchaser or their agent before xx/xx/2004 (give yourself at least 2 weeks, depending on your weather & ability to check out the rig), it is understood that I may cash said check." signature I used this, that way incase they skip town you have their money; but if it ends up being no good, you can't just go willy-nilly & cash the check. Everyone's protected. There is no can't. Only lack of knowledge or fear. Only you can fix your fear. PMS #227 (just like the TV show)
