Malaysia International Base Cup 2003

Recommended Posts

Malaysia International BASE World Cup.

It’s on again and it is time to formally register and start hunting for the elusive flights that are tough to get at this time of year. SkyVenture and the MIXSA Team formally invite you to register to participate in this event. It is hoped to make it even better than last year.

On the same dates in 2002 over 1100 jumps were made by 58 competitors representing 16 countries from KL Tower and Petronas Twin Towers (World’s tallest building). We want to do the same again.

We have a reputable safety record and we wish to maintain this high standard. Please do not apply if you have less than 100 BASE jumps, you are uncurrent or you have little experience with slider up or running launches. You will be disqualified immediately otherwise. An extremely high standard has been set and we intend to keep it that way. For those that have previously competed you will have preference in selection. (There are 50 slots available)

The event will be held from 27th Dec 2003 to 5th January 2004.

It is hoped to run the event from three buildings this year, however there is only approval for Petronas at this stage (two days on KL Tower and one day on Menara Telekom [Shark fin Building] is what is aimed for).

This uncertainty was the same as last year and unfortunately the political climate makes it difficult to provide categorical assurances until we are standing at the exit point. I will do my best to provide any information as it comes to hand. Please especially watch www.basejump.org on the forum.

Entry Fee will be $550 USD - NO DISCOUNTS
This will cover your accommodation (for the competition only!), some expenses for the competition, registration with security, T-shirt, building access and some functions.

There will at this stage be no airline sponsorship. This was not particularly effective last year and a number of people complained bitterly that they were frustrated by it. So it’s every man for himself to get to KL by the 26th. If you do not show up to registration on the 27th you will not get a pass and therefore will not be able to get into the building.

Accommodation is either going to be at the Concord Hotel or Chorus Hotel – both are close to Petronas. I will update as this becomes certain. You will need to take the train in to town from the airport and make your way to the hotel.

A draft program is attached:

Date Day Location Comp Times
Dec 27th Saturday Registration 9 am - 12pm pay and gear check (2pm Briefing)
Dec 28th Sunday KL Tower 2 rounds 9.30am - 12.30 and 2 - 5.30pm
Dec 29th Monday KL Tower 2 rounds 9.30am - 12.30 and 2 - 5.30pm
Dec 30th Tuesday Petronas (Afternoon) Practice 2pm - 5.30 pm
Dec 31st Wednesday Rehearsal and World Record 10am to 12.30 pm practice
Jan 1st Thursday Rest
Jan 2nd Friday Menara Telekom 2 rounds 10am - 12.30 and 2 - 5.30pm
Jan 3rd Saturday Petronas 2 rounds 10am - 12.30 and 2 - 5.30pm
Jan 4th Sunday Petronas 2 rounds 10am - 12.30 and 2 - 5.30pm
Jan 5th Monday Closing Ceremony

I will be the Chief Technical Director again this year and I need another great team of officials to help put this on. For those that have previously been involved in organising or judging I would appreciate you show your interest and commitment to this event by emailing me that your are hoping to assist again. I do also believe there may be room for one or two individuals to be involved in judging. This is a very tough job and you need to be good with extreme heat, computers, being strapped to the side of a building for a week getting a sore neck and ample criticism. The impartial individual really needs to display aptitude for minute detail and be confident defending their results. They need to be extremely patient. Your flight, accommodation and a token allowance will be paid. (If this sounds unreasonable please don’t apply). You will get some jumps when conditions permit – if you have previously officiated please work your remuneration out with Dann Lee. Please make your expression of interest known to me soon and provide detail about your abilities.

A world record attempt (Most number of jumpers from a building) (I agree it becomes semantics when you compare it with Moscow tower) is intended for New Years Eve from Petronas. Those performing well in the comp and with previous credentials will be selected. This is a rare demo that is hard to surpass.

Please go to the www.xtremeskydive.com.my website and register now– Also please forward this on to your foreign colleagues. They are welcome as long as they can vouch for their ability. If they turn up with poor gear or display poor skill or experience they will be removed. I will try and be quick in notifying of your successful application so you can start planning. I will be looking to try and get a balance of nations again so non english speaking will have a larger window of time to apply.

I am hoping for the same happy crowd as last year. :$

This message goes out to all the BASE jumpers coming for the event in KL, Malaysia later this year:

Just wanted to extend a warm welcome to the guys/girls who have been here who are coming again and also to those who have never been here before that are coming this year! :)
A budding BASE newbie, I would like to offer any help to anyone who will be here at the end of the year.

Please feel free to PM/Email me if you need any help in terms of where to go for discos, great food, places to see, anything! :)
Besides, I'd like to make BASE friends from all over the world.

Ok. Hope to hear from anyone.

Sincerely,

Matthew
