Go-Fast Games, the positive side.

Recommended Posts

Dwains stunt aside, the 3 days of BASE jumping at the Royal Gorge was the MOST DAM FUN EVERYONE INVOLVED EVER HAD! The Bridge employees were the most positive and helpful people ever. They bent over backwards to make sure we jumpers were completely catered to in every way. Even the Railroad folks that run the Royal Gorge Express (who were NOT keen on this idea initially AT ALL) were as accomadating, and impressed with the smoothness of the BASE portion of the games as we could have hoped. This Bridge is the most beautiful location for a BASE event imaginable. It has the scariness of a building, the visuals of a tall cliff and yet it's a bridge. What more could you ask for. Oh yeah, teh Gondola was not too shabby either and the hotel rooms in Canon City are wicked cheap and they love the extra tourism. The brotherly and sisterly love felt by all who were jumping is something that I will cherish forever. Jumping with Yuri, Tom Aiello, Gardner and Davidek, Chief Yellow pants and the SLC crew, Jeb and all the rest was truly a dream come true. Thank you Go-Fast, Vertigo and the Royal Gorge Staff from the bottom of my Heart. It was the event of a lifetime with an unfortunate ending.

I'm sorry I missed it (the weekend, not the accident). But I was up in Canada renewing my work visa and doing some mandatory RW. :S

Thank you for posting this. This was the best BASE event I've ever been to (and I've been to quite a few). The vibe was amazing, the locals were friendly and supportive, and we all had a great time right up to the end.

Even after the accident, the park manager said to me "I'm really sorry, but I hope you all come back next year."

Truly a phenomenal event, with truly phenomenal people.

It was wonderful until it wasn't.

Everyone was happy, mellow (Marta & Jimmy seem to have a calming influence), and completely stoked - even the city council member I talked to on the inclined railway.

Thanks to everyone involved.

As far as I could tell, this first year was more of a demonstration than a fully serious competition. Who won what event will probably be quietly awarded thier honors when the dust settles. I guarantee that more than anything, Dwain would want there to be a 2nd Annual Royal Gorge Go-Fast Games and not a bunch of assinine bickering.
