jumping from tandem paragliders (gear recommendations)

Recommended Posts

I'm an accomplished paraglider pilot with 50 skydives so far . I plan on jumping more and attending a FJC this Spring or Summer . Afterwards I would like to start base jumping from tandem paragliders from 500-3000 agl . I'm starting to look into gear and would like to learn how to pack prior to my FJC . The base altitude for most of my jumps will be around 8000'. I'm looking for any gear recommendations you might have . Thank you

Clarification. Faber thank you for your reply.
What gear would you recommend for a 500 ft tandem paraglider jump ?
My base altitude of 8000' is the msl of the ground I'll be landing on . I live in Colorado . Thanks

I presume you've seen the soulflyers video ?

I couldn't begin to tell you what the gear is, but you might have a clue.

You might try posting this to the ABA forum. I know that I've seen some video of tandem paraglider jumps (on BASE gear) on Beyond Extreme. I bet Tom B could help put you on the right track.

My short answer is: Standard BASE gear ought to work fine. I've jumped a couple of slow moving aircraft (ultralights, mostly) from very low altitudes on standard BASE gear and had no real problems.

Post to the UK board - there are a couple of jumpers who are experienced paraglider pilots.

As mentioned, this is not BASE jumping.

I have a few jumps from a tandem paraglider (from 300m to 700m) and personally think it is a good way to test your skills.
You have low airspeed (about 35-40km/h), and it is cheaper that with a balloon (for me).
Some tandem pilots are very hot to experience such a jump, so it should be no problem to find one.
You could tell the tandem pilot that the exit will be no problem for the paraglider canopy.

For the low jumps I used my FOX with the Reactor 4.

Enjoy it!

I used my BASE-gear for low-altitude jumps: tandem paragliders, balloons, moto-D-planes...
I haven't problem with it. It was just one question -- about packing: slider -down or -up. Sometimes the paragliders pilot can't say anythink about altitude before start.

some guys did it at our DZ http://www.piis.ch/gallery.php?dirdesc=August03&id=gruy6&fid=gry632.jpg#4 canopy is a velocity, container I think is a javelin, not sure.
for paraglider jumps, depending on altitude, can be done with a "normal" skydive rig. Been done at our DZ with Javelin and spinetto 135
