PC's and load tapes

Recommended Posts

Anyone jumping PC's without load tapes?

I am trying to sell 2 PC's without load tapes that are made by a BASE manufacturer ……………. But no one will touch them………

I prefer spokes and AV on my Pc’s – I have my own thoughts and reasons for this………. But I just wonder if anyone has any “public” thoughts on “plain ZP” PC’s

When you say "without load tapes", I going to assume that you mean that there are load tapes on the "lower" mesh portion, but not on the canopy portion of the pilot chute. Just wanted to make sure that was clear. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I think the PCs without load tapes on the canopy were primarily made for people with smaller hands that were going to be jumping hand-held. Leaving the load tapes off the canopy reduces bulk somewhat making the PC easier to hold.

What size are PCs? If they are configured for hand-held use, I would guess that are on the larger end (45"+) and don't have handles. They probably have a cap on top to allow better grip with your finger tips? If so, they're probably just fine for those specific jumps, BUT will require more inspection after every jump... more than most people are willing to do with reinforced PCs being the norm.

That and more people are going stowed and doing so from lower altitudes, so they've probably lost what little appeal they once had.

I have one PC w/o load tapes I regularly jump, its a 32" ZP external handled made by Vertigo. Of course this is my terminal PC, so in general, I'm not as concerned about off headings as on the lower stuff. Every other PC I jump has load tapes on it, however a poster on here, BASE704, I know has alot of experience with a 46" with no load tapes so maybe he'll share some of his thoughts.
I also prefer spokes and AV, just haven't gotten the full arsenal up to speed yet, so currently only jump one AV PC, a 46".

I won't use tapeless (on the topskin) PC's, because they deform during inflation and extraction, making them far more prone to orbiting and oscillation. They also wear out faster.

Just curious as I have heard opinion on that there is little point in having an AV 46" - my 46 is non AV as the manufacturer would only make me an AV on special request........... I decided to only get AV on my 42 and 38.......

Sorry I meant just on the top skin of the PC.

Kinda my thoughts - after some video of my PC's "dancing around like a mongoose on acid" I decided to get myself some new ones!

Nice one! Cheers

Honest guv I werent trying to stitch ya up.............. thought the 46 would be good for back up when you SL or sumfing guv'nor............... cheap as chips too!!

Well to be honest they do only have 5-10 jumps on them both - so are relatively "brand new" - its just they seem to oscillate a little toooooo much for my liking - but maybe not for someone elses liking!

Not so much as needing retiring - just a preference of mine to have spoked / AV......................... and PC's that dont dance around like a chimpanzee on Ecstasy............
