base698 14 #2 February 6, 2004 I know a lot of people wanted it. We thought a jumper here was going to get it but he wound up with 667. I was a little late in the picking to get that. I had to settle with #666 at Rantoul :)

TomAiello 26 #5 February 6, 2004 Yes it was. I met the guy, and have it on fairly good authority (from some old geezer in Houston) that it was really his number.-- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
NickDG 23 #6 February 7, 2004 And, Other Cool BASE Numbers . . . There is considerable jockeying for position, and I’m told, even a little good-natured coercion and bribery attempted when #69 came up. Carl and Jean, however, are sticklers for integrity and BASE 69 is duly awarded in sequence. BASE 100 goes to a jumper in Canada and #169 (not as cool as #69, but close) went to a well-known BASE gear manufacturer here in California (hint – he’s in Houston recently). BASE 200 is shipped to a brother in Australia and the holder of BASE 300 is the late great Earl Redfern. A good Kiwi friend of mine has BASE 400. There will be a BASE 1000, BASE 5000, and a BASE 10K someday, but the coolest BASE number will always be “your” BASE number . . . Nick BASE
pbla4024 0 #7 February 7, 2004 As Faber said some time ago, now we are waiting for 911 (at least I think it was Faber). Fido
skypuppy 1 #8 February 8, 2004 This might be off topic but I remember when BASE 100 got his number - I took him up on top of a building I'd gotten my BASE number off the previous week (with BASE 81). I jumped first and landed right beside my car - still remember the whuffos standing on their balconies clapping as I flew down from the 42nd floor. BASE 100 went feet first into the grill of a chip wagon parked at the base of the building. Groundcrew ran over to him and said 'Hook-knife!', and slashed his lines to pull the canopy off and get him to the car. After stashing my rig in the trunk I was running up to their van (parked in front of me) to see if anyone wanted to get a beer somewhere when they just took off - so I got in my car and took off too - to the end of the block, turned right and came to stop at an intersection facing 3 rows of headlights - uhhh, one-way street, and guess what? The next day they had a full page add in the H******** Spectator with a pic of the building and the caption, 'Daredevil skydivers leap off our building! You can land on the 2nd floor for x$'s/month!'If some old guy can do it then obviously it can't be very extreme. Otherwise he'd already be dead.
