ojf1982 0 #1 March 13, 2004 Can someone tell me what is the closest hotel/motel to the bridge in TF? I am planning on going there to do a FJC during Memorial day week. I am thinking of doing the Johnny Utah course since it is the least expensive. Does anyone have any experience with his course? The edge ... there is no honest way to explain it because the only people who know where it is are those that have gone over - Hunter S. Why not camp out and shower at the Flying J? Winco's got a kick ass parking lot and a nice deli menu. Are you flying out and renting a car? No experience with his course, but DO have experience with his wife's capabilities to make a mean margarita....in UTAH, even. peterk 0 #4 March 13, 2004 There are a couple cheap hotels out there in Twin, starting at the Motel6, which seems to be about $35.99/nt. However, it is a Motel6. Its about a 3 minute drive from the B, and there are a couple big flags to drive by on the way. We're going to be there for Memorial Day, as are a lot of other jumpers with motel rooms and cars, so you might want to look into splitting rooms and getting car rides from new friends. I can't imagine that if you are jumping Memorial Day, you will have too much of a problem getting a ride to and from the motel to the B. If you are really interested, we're good friends with one of the TF local jumpers, and can get you in touch with him if you have more detailed questions that a local jumper could help with. I went out a couple months ago to TF with a friend who was doing a FJC with Johnny Utah. Johnny is not only an incredible BASE jumper, but a super cool guy to hang out with and talk to. One of those guys that you can pick his brain all day. I don't think my friend gets on the internet often, but we've talked about his FJC with Johnny, and he has only great things to say. As I was peeking into the course, I got the impression that it was an excellent course, and from what I've seen from watching over several other FJCs, I thought it was the best one that I've seen. Johnny is simply an incredible jumper, and also a great teacher. I would recommend going to Blockbuster and renting "SLC Punk", so when he gives you a nickname, it will make more sense... --------------- Peter BASE - The Ultimate Victimless Crime
riggersam 1 #5 March 14, 2004 The Comfort Inn is right at the intersection of the roads that lead to the top and bottom. There's a Holiday Inn Express right next to it. I think those are the closest. Mark
jkbasejumper 0 #6 March 15, 2004 I am thinking of doing the Johnny Utah course since it is the least expensive you my friend are making a huge mistake.taking a fjc solely because it is the cheapest could cost you in the the long run. BUT it is your lucky day because you also chose the best. so it won't cost you in the long run. i took his course about 2 years ago and i have to say i was not expecting to learn as much as i did. after the course was over we left with a lot of jumps, unhurt (thats always a plus),a wealth of knowledge, the confidence to go other places not so forgiving as tf and make safe base jumps. the 1 on 1 time you get with johnny is priceless if you just listen to what he has to tell you and pay attention you will have a really good time and leave there with alot of good memories. if you have any more questions about his course you can pm me or e-mail.big country base998
ojf1982 0 #7 March 15, 2004 Maybe I gave out the wrong impression, but I am contemplating his course because it is the most cost-effective because it includes a lot more than most other courses I have read up on. JU's course is a week compared to the rest who are only 3 days. I have received alot of replies about JU and nothing but praised has been said about him. So far, it looks like I am going to go with JU.The edge ... there is no honest way to explain it because the only people who know where it is are those that have gone over - Hunter S. webracer 0 #9 March 15, 2004 The Holiday motel is a drive away, on the north side, but is cheap and negotiable. We paid $120 for the whole week. The owner does go through the rooms though (we thought). Oh yeah, the towels are kinda crappy, so I brought my own. This is also where Tom stays (the famous retired person) who jumps the bridge 3-4 times each day during the season. Good luck and have funTroy I am now free to exercise my downward mobility. Holiday Inn Express is closest, The Shilo is a bit further but way better. They'll open up their conference rooms to pack in, and they're pretty liberal with the discounts...Military ID gets a good one...you can always ask for a BASE jumper discount! AntiPinkChrissy 0 #11 March 15, 2004 We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express last year, they do give base jumper discounts, just ask for it. We packed in the hallways and they had no problem with that. They also have a hot tub and pool, the hot tub sure felt good after a day of jumping. ~La La Gang Member #2~
ojf1982 0 #12 March 16, 2004 I just booked my flight into twin falls, and just got off the phone with Johnny to confirm that I will be attending the course. If any one wants to split the cost of a hotel/motel shoot me an email or PM. I hope to see everyone else over there.
