Span?

Recommended Posts

Just wondering...

A Span ´spans´ between 2 points, it connects point A with point B.

But, what if you jump an object that is soon to be a Span, but not completed yet?

We recently jumped this ´almost´ Span, but it was still missing a part of the road deck and therefore doesn´t really ´spans´ between 2 fixed points.

Would you log this as a Span? :S

Ref Skinflicka's five year old rule.

If in doubt, ask a 5 year old if it's a bridge.;)

You know it is...right?

Jumping the pillars of a bridge is still a bridge jump.
Jumping from the flag pole on top of a building is still a building jump.
Jumping a fat chick is still fun if undetected.:$

Just variations on a theme...

A tout a l'hueres,

I did, what do I win?;)

Here´s another one: We found a building (restaurant) on the edge of a cliff...(exit is from building). An E or a B?

B- Wind blows around it
A- Wind blows through it
S- Wind blows under it
E- Wind blows over it

Unless I'm wrong, it's a span. ;)

I personally don´t care what an object is, as long as it´s jumpable!

Just happen to have been on some trips with people that want their BASE number so badly that they see A´s in B´s, B´s in E´s, S´s in A´s or whatever.

Anyway, it gave us something to discuss about on the way back!

Thought I get some more opinions about this subject for the next trip! :)

So when someone finally opens a BASE-park they should build a couple buildings on the side of a cliff and have a span run between them (ala the buildings used for the big BASE competition in the AsiaPac area) and then build an antenna on the span, but have everyone jump off a crane mounted to the top of the antenna.

Can you qualify for BASE-O in one jump?

The pillar itself, yeah. B|

Now something sticking off the top of a pillar, wind blows under that. B|

If it is soon to be a SPAN, then it is a SPAN. If you jump a building soon to be a building, it's either a building or you SPLAT because it was TOO LOW. Should have waited for another couple floors to be added.

If it's an antenna, soon to be an antenna, then it's an antenna. If not, you splat because it was too low. Reference above to the building example.

And if it's soon to be a cliff, then you're rolling down a hill because it hasn't eroded yet.

oh oh oh....but if a tree falls in the woods, and there is noone around, is it still a tree falling?

they are all low alittude parachute deployment experiements carried out by low altitude parachute deployment scientists............. a jump is a jump - if unsure and have to argue it run RimLickas 5 yr rule and if still unsure mark it as an O......

some to question:

Concrete solid tower?

Solid Antenna?

large circular metal gasometre?

tethered balloon?

crane?

you can argue and argue the differences - if wind blows around a solid antenna does that make it a building? nope not in my eyes............. which is why in the end they are all just low altitude parachute deployment experiments........... just have fun thats all that matters..............

fuck im bored!! :SB|

I say, the only time it needs to be put in a category for sure is when you want to use it to justify your BASE number. For BASE qualification, it should be easy to be SURE what you are jumping. If not sure, it is another jump. The "5 year old" rule should work for being sure, as will the "if it ends up a ..... then it is a ...." rule. If You know instinctively if it is a B or A or S or E then it can be used to qualify for BASE. Once you have your 4 objects "for sure, no doubt" then its another fun jump and you can put it where it fits best or under "O".

Very well said.;)

Hopefully we can shelve this one for a while.
