hey dude!

I am also a slider down jumper..........

but I have theory about slider up...........

people on solid objects are taking 4-6 sec slider up and I think that some of them do not realise the problems in doing this........

my own thoughts are that the 5-8 sec delays with a slider are the ones that can cause you shit!

Why take a 5 sec slider up when I can do a 3 or 4 slider down.......... to me taking the slider down option is safer........... (I am just talking about openings rather than the object delays)

If I can take a slider in the 8+ region I would be happy - its just the region of 4 - 6 that to me scares me............

sliders are no worry - but its the sub-terminal deployment in this range that scares me.........

you have an A that you can do some nice delays from but you choose to jump sub200 - my thought is try out the slider jumps on it - you have enough height to get out of that "range"

in the low altitude parachute deployment science, i still think people dont respect the fact there is a range of delays that its safer just to take a smaller delay slider down (dependant on object) - slider up and longer delays do not mean a safer jump!!!!

It's all about what you're used to. I know once very experienced jumper who had around 600 jumps before he started doing slider ups. Maybe he'll post...

Well, in my opinion sliders have their place in BASE jumping but as we all know, and some of us have experienced, they can sometimes cause malfunctions and quirky opennings(I am still recovering). I would much rather a slider down on an object that I have the chance of running back into on a 3-6 second delay than a slider up of the same, or a little more of a, delay.

Well that's my momma. Later

actualy my fear lays just #63 at the fatality list..
Quote

Nik had 501 BASE jumps when he launched for this planned 9-10 second delay. Most of Nik's previous BASE jumps had been low ones and he's actively working on his tracking skills.

I talked (not much)to Nik before he died,he gave me a great impress of the sport(i were just started at that point).

He died the way i fear i will die duing BASEjump..[:/](yes im not trolling that slider up BASE scares me,they actualy does..)

the thing that borthers me is that i know its a braindfuck that i one day will face, but untill then i guess ill stay at the lowobjects(not that i dont like them, actualy i love them.. he he).

i hope the guy will post his experience by this...

I guess its usaly the otherway huh..:S(people dont want to do slider off,if they can do a slider up..)

About 70% of my jumps are slider-up.... most of those being terminal but some in the 5-7 second range.

It took a long time for me to dial in my packjob to where I felt good about my slider-up heading performance. Most of those were terminal jumps so I had plenty of clearance in the event of a 180.

The other night, though, douggie and I were packed slider up, but our elevator "E" was out of commission, so we went to our trusty-dusty 420-foot crane.

We both took a 1 second delay with a 46. Mine was perfectly on-heading, Doug's was a perfect 180. So it's sort of a wash.

I will say this... short-delay slider-up openings are nice & quiet.

I'd feel OK taking a subterminal delay slider up... though I'll still go slider-down for anything 3 seconds and below.

Thanks for the encouraging healing terms, Faber. I have been hovering the forum here for a little and only have the one post that I could actually have input for. I have a previous off heading that I was until now blaming on bad body position, but now realize it might have something to do with a slider induced off heading. I need alot more experience to accurately diagnose this claim so until my back can sustain a BASE openning everyone will have to wait for that assessment. Or you could just go and have fun(preferred). later.....MATT

I still haven't gone slider up, and have to admit it puckers my :P. I am so used to 3 or less that I feel like I would go unstable after two (unless I kept myself busy in some sort of rotation ;)). I know that the wind will pick up, and I'll know what to do, but I would have to say it gives me chills too.
