Stuff hanging off antennas

Recommended Posts

So I just found this 376 freestander. Very exciting. It gets gradually skinnier like any Antenna does, but the last 50 feet or so gets drastictly thinner. On 1 of the 3 sides at the top fifty feet there are 6 oval shaped bars sticking out. The oval consists of 2 elongated "C"'s overlapping each other on the top an bottom to form an oval shape. Then an "S" shape pole going through the oval. I'm guessing they are 3 to 4 feet tall and there are like 5 or 6 sticking off the one side. Anybody know what these might be? Thanks for the help.

Bryan

Not sure but obtain the FCC tower number and see if info is given on the FCC website. I have been surprised to discover towers that I had been jumping were transmitting >10 million watts.

Can you post a pic?

I've seen things that sound like that before. A tower engineer told me he wouldn't come within 100 feet of them if they were on. I think they were putting off a ton of nasty radiation.

My strategy has been to get by them as soon as possible. And if they're at the top, just jump well below them.

Anyway, none of that is factual, or based on your particular tower, so take it with a grain of salt.

Does anyone know if this meathod works? A little radiation goes a long way eh? Just getting by them seems like a bad idea to me. Just because you don't start throwing up or grow a third eye doesn't mean it didn't just fry your balls...am I mistaken?:S

lots of places.. do a quick google search for 'personal RF monitors'

http://www.rwonline.com/reference-room/special-report/02_rwrf_Nov20_part_1.shtml a bit of info on the problems with them..

also most dont go up into radar ranges... i've seen quite a few towers near doppler domes...[:/]

RF generally causes tissue heating... The eyes and the gonads are sensitive to heating. I think you would be able to feel the sensation of heat. Through heresay, some transmitters have been known to spark if anything comes too close to them (i.e. within a foot or so). This doesn't make sense, however, if there is grounded metal nearby to the sparkable transmitter, since there would be a significant electrical short to ground.

Many of the radio station transmitters are <100kW or so and do not present much of a hazard. Many of the cell phone towers radiate in the multiple GHz range and tissue may be much more sensitive to these higher (microwave) frequencies. The general rule of radiation safety is: time, distance, shielding. Minimize the time of exposure, keep you distance, and maximize your shielding.

Sorry I can't be much more help. We should try tracking down the FCC safety codes for occupational exposure to the various types of transmitters.
