321Cya 0 #1 August 21, 2004 Hey guys, My girlfriend started BASE jumping recently and as she goes she learns about the do's and don'ts in our sport gradually. Recently she was doing a 4 sec 'slider up' jump with some experienced people who advised her to do so. I personally wouldn't do that. If 4 sec is the max. delay you can make I rather go for a 3 sec. slider down. In this particular case there was way more delay possible, so I would then go for a 5 sec. 'minimum' delay slider up myself. Anyway, I remember reading a post about this area of delay (4-5 sec. slider up/down) and remember seeing some pretty divided opinions about this subject. I found the posts in that thread quite interesting and I would like to have my girlfriend read it as well for her to see what our fellow jumpers have to say about this. Anybody remember this thread and knows where to find it? Thanks for any help. Joris. 892 www.vandrunen.ch
Faber 0 #2 August 21, 2004 i rember the tread but by a quick look i didnt find it aswell However i also rather take the slider off unless i can get a 6-7sec delay atleast..I rather pull high than risk a bulky offheading, slider up.. take that by a grain of salt as i only did one slider up(in fact that were a 4sec delay onheading). Zennie 0 #3 August 21, 2004 I personally wouldn't go longer than 4 slider down.... and in that case I'd get ready to lose my shoes. Probably no more than 3 on a canopy with inlets. If 4 was the max delay, I'd just take a 3. I've taken 5s slider up with no big heading issues. I just handled the nose a little differently than on longer delay jumps.... basically setting it up the way I would for a slider-down jump. - Z "Always be yourself... unless you suck." - Joss Whedon
NeilQ 0 #4 August 22, 2004 I'm not sure what the exact number was but at Petronas last year several hundred jumps were made in that region (3-5 secs) slider up, without any major dramas. I have done and watched plenty of 4-ish second delays slider up with no major dramas (our regular power tower @ 600ft) I guess it all depends on object specifics and how you feel about it...
