Some Bridge Day thank-yous

Recommended Posts

What an awesome two days.

First off, big thanks to Tom Aiello for loaning me a rig to jump, as I had trouble finding one big enough for me. Not only that, but over the last few months he's given me lots of helpful tips on techniques and gear via PMs. Tom, your generosity to a complete stranger will not be forgotten.

Secondly, my huge gratitude to Todd Shoebotham of Apex. Not only for his insightful thoughts during the first jump course, but afterwards when I saw him in the lobby during the packing seminars. Not only did he completely pack my rig, he also took A LOT of time answering my questions completely, and would even ask if I understood everything before he moved on to the next technique. And not just my questions....there were about 6-10 people crowded around watching, and he aswered all their questions thouroughly (and humourously, as the situation warranted ;)). Todd, thanks for giving of your time when that had to be a commodity in short supply for you this weeekend.....and the packjob opened up quickly, softly, and EXACTLY on-heading. :)
Lastly, major kudos to Jason, Bill, and their entire staff for putting on such an enjoyable and well-run event for everyone. I saw a little of it last year as a non-jumper, but being on the inside of the ropes this year showed me all the hard work you have to co-ordinate to make this thing come together every year.....and the exhuberance and friendliness of the folks at the exit point did a lot to ease the tension and nervousness I was feeling as a first-timer. I can't even imagine the hundreds of hours y'all spend each year to ensure that this 2 days comes off without a hitch. I'd be honored to volunteer the miniscule amount I did to help again next year, and rest assured I'll be one of the hordes crashing your server again next July. B|

I would also like to mention, to the best of my knowledge, that no one was seriously hurt this year!!!!!!!!!!!!! I heard rumors of spained ankles and such, but we all did great!!!!

My hat is off to the organizing commitee. What a well run event.

Despite the lousy weather - I made my 1st and 2nd BASE jump at the bridge.

I also want to thank the folks at vertigo (specifically Marta) for the rental gear and patience with me.

Most incredible time. Was nice to meet people I haven't seen in a long time, and to meet new people. Great parties, and oh yeah, the jump was fun too.

Thanks to Martin for getting my rig to me on time with last minute changes, Jason and all the staff, the people whose room I stumbled into and let me party with them. Hope I didn't piss you off too much TJ.

Cool meeting you Donk, and the I don't know how many others. Many intro'd themselves by saying, "Hi Nick, I'm a friend of Rayman." (Hey Ray, there's people living in your building now.)

I made my jump at 9:30 at Bridge Day as I thought the WX might get worse. By the time I realized it was actually getting better it is too late for me from a sobriety standpoint . . .

The VideoFest, I'm pretty sure, was a hoot.

Russel, pBASE #1, was awesome. And the opportunity to present his award an honor. I also gave the BASE Fellowship Award to Joy Harrison and Tom Aiello. Joy for getting the BASE numbers back on track, and Tom for just being Tom.

I wonder how long it will be before anyone asks Russel, "So what'd you do, take a leak on all four objects . . . ?
