Faber 0 #1 November 10, 2004 After got replaced some velcro and got a new bridel i realice that im either too poor to use a rigger theese days or that riggers just started to take big moneyes for their work.. Now as i dont skydive anymore i cant get a real rigger course, but im wondering if i take a class in sewing if that will take care of major needs? Im thinking of regular maintaince as changing velcro and stuff like that,i still want a real rigger to take care of example damegede to the canopy or so.. whats your thourght?? cheers Stay safe Stefan Faber
hookitt 1 #2 November 10, 2004 For what you need, get a sewing machine and start pushing fabric through it for practice. You will need a machine that's fairly heavy duty (industrial). The worse that would happen is you learn to sew. The best is you can replace your own velcro, Make other repairs. Sew a dress for youself or your girlfriend. You can decide that one. A sewing class is always nice to get started. Good luck!
Faber 0 #3 November 10, 2004 how much would you recomend to sew your self and what would you ask other for?? for the dress part i guess my kids could use the benefit at Halooween, but i also look nice in a dress(if i should say it myself) most people just tend to say that i dont fit dresses that well(im not that feminen),but its always a good laugh.. RayLosli 11 #4 November 10, 2004 I suggest you just watch somebody that has taken years to learn how to Sew. BASE specific Gear for about, Ten Minutes. Then go down and buy $10,000 .00 USD of, Sewing Machines. You Will Be Set. and Lookin Pretty.

hookitt 1 #6 November 10, 2004 Quote how much would you recomend to sew your self and what would you ask other for?? If you're asking how much I would sew for myself, I'd make every thing but I don't have 10,000 dollars worth of sewing machines. Using the machines in my possession, I can make any needed repairs or modifications that do not require a harness machine. That's a pretty wide range. As for you? That's for you to decide. If you have the talent to make a repair.. or at least the balls to attempt it before having someone else do it, then do it. ==>*Use common sense* Post pictures of you in your dress. Note to folks reading this thread: Hookitt is a very experienced rigger who has sewn for gear manufacturers. His willingness to make everything himself is probably not a good indication that the rest of us ought to do so.-- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
hookitt 1 #8 November 10, 2004 Thanks Tom. That's why I said this ==> "As for you? That's for you to decide. JohnnyUtah 0 #9 November 10, 2004 Good points. Faber maybe a general rule of thumb for you to consider--is it a major or minor repair. Major repairs are those whereby if it fails then it is life threatening. Minor repairs are most likely not life threatening if they fail. Replacing the Velcro on your bridle is a minor repair. Go for it. Making repairs to the harness or risers would be a major repair. Have a good rigger do it.Have Fun, Don't Die! NickD 1 #10 November 10, 2004 Failure of a minor repair, on a BASE jump, can present a major problem . . . When I wrote an early article on constructing your own BASE gear, as was the style, at one time, Todd Shoebotham gave me a good kick in the butt by saying, "Yikes, what are doing?" I guess, I thought we are all going over the wall anyway, and anything is possible, and I'm thankful Todd reigned me in. You need to be (with all due respect to the Army) all the rigger you can be for BASE jumping, but nothing more than you are really sure about . . . Faber 0 #12 November 11, 2004 QuoteFailure of a minor repair, on a BASE jump, can present a major problem . . . I do agree,in the werry first stage of my BASE carre i asked my local rigger to replaced velcro on my multi,he did so and i (my once in a life time failure)didnt check it.He had by failur set velcro ALL the way down the multi, which resulted(at my first and only so far slider up),that the multi couldnt expand and i got a 5cell 225 unvented fox to fly in instead of a 7 cell 225 i did land hard but no dammegede to me or the gear. Thanks evryone on the heads upAs i didnt sew yet hookit i promise that when im ower this cold(im at my gf´s place)ill go back home and post a pic of Faber in i purple dress, the only excuse i have were that i were drunk, but hey it were all fun(i were told) Stay safe Stefan Faber
