Line release toggles slider-down?

Recommended Posts

Does anyone have any thoughts as to the suitability of line release toggles for slider down jumping? Could they be used as an alternative to the standard line mod (routing brake lines outside slider grommets and riser guide rings)? I would also be interested in any feedback on LRT's in general, I have only seen Vertigo's.

Vertigo/Apex does not recommend using WLO's slider down. I believe they've had some issues with bent pins from hard openings. It's an eventual gear wear issue, rather than an immediate failure/malfunction issue, though, so if you are careful about maintenance and replacement, you could use them. Expensive to keep replacing, though.

I had an interesting conversation last night about slider down line release with the keeper rings. I'll wait and see if he posts some of his ideas. Since they're not mine (the ideas), I'm not sure he wants them discussed here.

I would say that the general height of opening on a Slider Down deployment (obviously this depends on the person and the actual height people open) the toggle release system has no place. On my slider down openings I am more than often open below 100ft, so using a system like this is not practical for me.

I have heard people are not using the line mod on SD deployments due to the confidence in the tailgate, I have looked in to it myself, but in the end when you are opening in the sub100 region, do you have the super hero speed to use a LRT / HP Toggle to clear that line over rather than popping and dropping?

More ideas? Cool. I've been too busy to build my idea, what with a new baby and another home purchase in the next 3 weeks, but hopefully I can get a set made and sent out to you soon.

I just purchased a set of WLO toggles (and risers). I was told that a few people had a problem with bent pins on slider down jumps....so they came out with Syco (sp?) toggles which feature a slightly shorter pin (that you switch out when doing slider down jumps) which should solve the problem.
Cheers!

We've always had the Syko toggles with the shorter pins. We had our manufacturer of pins build us longer ones for the WLO's. The reason for this is to have the same pin connecting the brake line to the toggle as well as going through the loop which goes through the brake setting itself. This allows us with one motion to release both points. There have been a few instances of bent pins when jumped slider down, so we recommend using the Syko toggles for these jumps. Marta and I have been using the WLO's for all jumps and haven't had a problem with bent pins. When the brake line setting is not pre-tensioned each jump, the pin is shock loaded and can bend. It is quite easy to straighten the pin and no replacement is necessary. With the merger into Apex, Marta and I are moving to Perris for January and February when we will merge the rig designs, risers, pilot chutes, etc... This will be a very exciting time and there will be many changes taking place. The idea is to take the best features of each item and make one super deluxe product in each category.
