judedre 0 #1 January 28, 2004 I have flown a diablo 170 for the last 300 jumps this weekend i demoed a sabre2 150 and a stileto 150 and at the end of the weekend i find myself wanting a diablo 150 WHY is this? Evryone keeps telling me pd pd pd and the diablo is crap i personally found it to fly better than both the pd canopies i demoed the stileto was close but the openings were crap,,,would like to hear from other diablo pilots..thanks
diablopilot 2 #2 January 28, 2004 Fly what you like. If the way the Diablo flys suits you better, buy it. They should be avaliable for pretty cheap. I flew a diablo as my first canopy (I know not the best choice for a first canopy) for about 400 jumps, and found it to be one of the most fun canopies I've flown. I've since flown a few different sizes, all just as much fun. Nothing turns quite as fast as a Diablo.---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
GravityGirl 0 #3 January 28, 2004 I think the Diable has snappier turns. So if that's what appeals to you then the Diablo is for you. If longer plain out on landing is more appealing, then go for the Stiletto. I disagree with the Stiletto opening like crap. I have many jumps on Stilettos. I think the openings are soft and on heading. But there are factors. Packing, body position, container. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear! skynole 0 #4 January 28, 2004 QuoteBut there are factors. ..., container. I've never heard or even really thought about that. How much of a factor and in what ways does the container play a role in the opening? Edit: Obviously I understand how the container can affect how the bag comes of your back (Birdman mods, etc.). Is that pretty much what you are referring to or are you talking about how it affects the actual canopy itself?
rhino 0 #5 January 28, 2004 A Highly loaded Diablo KICKS ASS!!!!!!!!!! Yeagh!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was loading my 110 around 1.8... It would dive and dive and dive and dive and it was the fastest turning canopy I have every flown..
smooth 0 #6 January 28, 2004 comparing a Diablo to a Sabre2 is kinda like comparing apples and oranges.

SniperCJ 0 #8 January 29, 2004 The Diablo turns faster and opens better than the Stiletto. Been flying the Diablo 150 in both my rigs for several hundred jumps and Ive loved it. I'll be downsizing soon. E-mail me or PM me Judedre... JC
GravityGirl 0 #9 January 29, 2004 I never really though about how much the container can affect opening until I got my new one. Now I have made it a point to evaluate this every chance I get. The stows on the bag are a factor. Even how the reserve tray is sewn to the backpad is a factor. If there is a gap at all, one side can hesitate just a little longer than the other. Also, condition of the pilot chute and risers. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!
dgskydive 0 #10 January 29, 2004 Have you guys flown the Nitro yet? Give it a try. If you can't find one let me know I will se if I can get you a demo. The are very nice canopies as well. There is an add for them in the Feb. Parachutist. I have a demo 135 from them right now and I am liking it a lot. It is basically the same canopy as the Nitron.Dom
skychic68 0 #11 January 29, 2004 If you like it and can fly it safely......keep it. Personally, I sold my Diablo because I thought it was too twitchy and couldn't get a good flare out of it. I did like the snappy turns, though. so many people have different opinions about everything. If it works for you....well, you know. It is good to soak in all the information from others, however. I find you can learns lots this way. Be safe.Que sera sera
Gravitymaster 0 #12 January 30, 2004 I've currently got about 150 jumps on a Diablo 135. I agree with you it's a very snappy canopy in turns. Excellent in turbulence. Not as good a swoop as a Stilletto but I've never had problems landing it. If it suits you, buy it.
GeorgeKat 0 #13 January 30, 2004 I have a 150 and a 135. I love the 150. I load the 135 at 1.5 and the oscillations on opening can be scary, particularly if you're in twists. Everything else (landing, rate of opening etc.) at that loading is great, but I think you need to be very current and experienced just for the openings. I've had about 7 months out, so I'm sticking to the 150 for now. A significant advantage of the PD canopies is that they will hold their value much better than the Diablo. skydiven4fun 0 #14 January 31, 2004 I pust over 800 jumps on a Diablo and still own my 150, I load it at around 1.8 and It was and still is an awsome canopy, I have a new rig that I have a 120 Xaos, and without a doubt It totaly rocks, But I still use my second rig on a regular basis and get really good swoops out of it. Nothing like my Xaos mind you, but In the right hands a good pilot can get respectable swoops out of a diablo, anyone that say's different probably has not ever jumped one for any length of time.Still here after all these years Clayton
