rendezvous 0 #1 February 6, 2004 Do the non flip up RW helmets fog up ? If so how do you clear the lense. Do you just wait to get out. Do they also fog up under the canopy, if so then how do you deal with it ?

labrys 0 #4 February 6, 2004 I have a Renegade... it fogs up like an SOB. I'm going to deal with it by taking out the visor. That rat bastard scared the hell out of me once when I opened into the sun and couldn't see anything. I don't want to go there EVER again.Owned by Remi #? Synapse 0 #5 February 6, 2004 I'm a 25 jump wonder, so take this with a grain of salt. I have a bonehead boomerang that came with a bottle of anti-fog solution. I tried the helmet on before using the solution and, as expected, it fogged up like a mofo. Once I put the solution on its not a problem during pre-exit or after deploying. The factory recommends applying the solution at the beginning of the jump day, which I do. Separate from curing the fog problem, I personally practiced getting the damn thing off my head in case it does ever fog up at an inopportune time. -synThey who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. - Benjamin Franklin
Stacy 0 #6 February 6, 2004 I have a factory diver that doesn't flip up. Only had a problem with it fogging in teh cold up north, but if i was pretty faithful with some defogger (such as the types sold in dive shops, etc etc) it was fine. Now I'm in FLorida and never a problem. __
hipgnosis 0 #7 February 6, 2004 At least with my Factory Diver I've found it fogs up on the rare cold wet days we get here. Most of the problem was alleviated by increasing the airflow slightly (reseating the visor to allow more air to flow through). That solved the worst of it, and if it does fog I can normally just tilt my head down and look through the top of the visor and still see fine. vt1977 0 #8 February 6, 2004 I jump in the UK and it gets pretty cold over here and is damp for quite a lot of the year. Personally, I jump a Z1 and have only ever had that ice up once (on a night jump when it was –36 at altitude!) and misting up occasionally on cold days, but I have heard Factory Diver owners complaining a lot about their helmets misting up on cold days. I’m not sure if there is an easy answer, for me it’s simple, I jump in a cold, wet country (lucky me!) so I choose to jump a full face helmet with a flip up visor! nbblood 0 #9 February 6, 2004 I have a Factory Diver and it fogs up quite a bit under different conditions, i.e., colder than normal, more humid than normal. I used anti-fog this and that but nothing seemed to really help. I dealt with it by: 1. Wait as long as possible in the plane before putting on the helmet. 2. Don't sit it on the top of your head while waiting in the plane(moisture from your breath will find it). Those two steps helped a lot. 3. Under canopy if it started to fog, I took it off and turned it around backward. BTW- I don't recommend this as dropping the helmet during this process can be disastrous (and I don't mean to the helmet). For the record, I now have a Z1 and I'll make you a great deal on the Factory Diver.....lol Blues, NathanBlues, Nathan If you wait 'til the last minute, it'll only take a minute. darkwing 5 #10 February 6, 2004 If it doesn't flip up then you had better pay close attention to using good anti-fog compound. Lots of my friends like "Cat Crap" I use the stuff that came with my bonehead havok. Apply every weekend and all is well. If I don't then I can have some fog problems. I don't think I'd consider buying any helmet that couldn't flip up. Fog aside, have you ever had a bloody nose inside a helmet? You need to flip up then... -- Jeff My Skydiving History
skygirl1 1 #11 February 6, 2004 Flip ups are needed.........I don't know this by experience cosidering I am still a student.....almost done though.............but my bf jumped out one day during winter with his rw........it froze up considering it was -20 at altitude........he did try to flip it up but was unable to due to the cold and elements.........he finally pulled when his audible went off and never saw the ground coming.....broke his back....................i know that little story did not have to do much with much.........just a thought for jumpers bailing out on cold winter days...but like has been said........you never know what is gonna happen up there....bloody noses etc........ skygirl1" Mean people SUCK!"
