Thinking about injuries

Recommended Posts

I am trying to scare myself out of the wonders of BASE. It's pretty much assumed that "you will get hurt."

Can you, from your own experience and in a few words (or run long-winded, by all means), tell me what jump(s), how badly, and why you got hurt?

If not at all, how many jumps you've got? (here, a piece of wood for you to knock on while you're replying to this one :)
Thanks!

The only injury from BASE I've ever (knock, knock, knock) recieved....

I hurt my jaw. I smiled too much.

I've recieved more scrapes and cuts getting to an exit point than actually jumping. Just ask Peterk how awesome I am at climbing fences.;)

I have partially broken ear (cartilage).
I had 180 off., on a friendly 125m span, and on ~3s delay. I was not wearing helmet and I got riser slap on both of my ears. The pain was tremendous. I don't remember my body doing twist while turning 180 deg., I was disorientated. All I remember was big pain, and thought that I just got ripped my ears off. If I had that on some building or a wall, I would be dead, because I did not know where I was for a couple seconds.
Left ear was much worse than right (I had some scrapes on face also, at that side) I could not touch it for almost 5 weeks after the jump. Not to mention that it was red and blue on some parts, and swollen. After inspection later, I found crack on ear cartilage, at place were ear is connected with head.

Yes, and some barb wire cuts between my legs and hands, after being chased by big german shepherd, the guard dog. ;)

That is all for now.
