321seeya 0 #1 September 7, 2005 When I read about this location in TX I was stoked! We will be taking a family vaction there soon, and while I was there...... reading this made me start jonesing..... "Rising over 4,000 feet above the salt flats below like a giant fortress guarding over the **********, ** ********* dominates the West Texas skyline. Overshadowed in height by its neighbor Guadalupe Peak, ** ******** is not overshadowed in status. Capped off with a rugged 1,000 ft. sheer limestone cliff, ** ******** is certainly the captain and signature peak of Texas mountains. ** ******** ranks as the eighth highest peak in Texas." But after reading this, I was more than let down! The Guadalupe Mountain area is one of the windiest places in the nation. Winds in excess of 100 mph have been recorded and high winds are common year round. Bring your Wal-Mart tent at your own risk. Mountain Lions and rattlesnakes are located in this area. Guess you cant have you cake and eat it too.... BASE 3:16 - Even if you are about to land on a cop - DONT FORGET TO FLARE! Free the soul -- DJ
TomAiello 26 #2 September 7, 2005 It's also in a National Park. If you're serious about doing it, drop me a PM, and I'll try to fill in some blanks for you.-- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
Bigwallmaster 0 #3 September 15, 2005 I know this site fairly well, as I am a frequent visitor to this area. In my opinion this is not a suitable site for BASE!! I'll let Tom take it from here as his experience far exceeds mine. But I think you stick with your initial gut that there are several factors that make this site too dangerous.
