Bridge Day Cell Phone Reception

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know if there is good cell phone reception at the New River Gorge Bridge Day event?

Let me know what carrier you use if you have had good or bad reception there in the past.

This will be my first year attending the festivities.:)

And while we're at it, does anybody know what a taxi ride from Charleston from Fayetteville costs? I've heard about 50 bucks, is that right?

Anybody driving up from Charleston late Tuesday night or Wednesday morning and interesting in splitting gas?

I've had good service there with both T-Mobile and AT&T. I've got Verizon now, so I guess I'll find out about that one this year.

I have Alltel and I had a good signal. Didn’t try it though because WV is out my plan area.

Not to deviate, but the Holiday Inn Oak Hill has free internet this year (unencrypted 802.11b/g). I thought you techies might want to bring your laptops. Maybe I'll set up a webcam at the Holiday Inn and we can geek the camera all day?

You may have heard that from me, but keep in mind that info is from a mid-nineties event when I found the airport out of rental cars. With the price of gas now I would imagine it a lot more.

That's right :)
Anybody know if it's bussable, possibly in combination with a taxi? Greyhound doesn't seem to stop in Fayetteville. If not, I'll just have to suck it up. Oh well... :)

Jaap,

I know someone who is looking to share a ride Tues night or Wed morning. I'll give you his info tonight. Anyone else needing a ride then, email me and I'll try to assist. Otherwise, stick out yer thumb and hitchike. Some redneck will gladly let you ride in the back of his 79' Ford pickup. A taxi would be VERY expensive. Cya

T-Mobile stinks in this area.

Not any more - it now roams (free) on Highland and has good reception on top and at the LZ. SMS doesn't work very well, though.

bsbd!

Yuri.

The incredible BASE community to the rescue once more. Thanks guys, I'm taken care of (and I don't mean that in the Abbie way).

I don't know why I didn't think of this before. I called my carrier, Cingular, and asked them if they had coverage in Fayetteville, WV. They don't, but they do use towers from other carriers. If you have free roaming, you should be able to use your Cingular phone there with good reception.
