TomAiello 26 #53 December 11, 2005 QuoteA's - 13 (only include one's with guy wires.) What do you count free standers as? And, can you explain why you do this? It's really just semantic, so it's not very important, but I tend to use the "classic" definitions of either (a) geometry: a straight vertical line (which means smoke stacks are A's) or (b) wind: the wind blows through it. Of the two I prefer the wind explanations, since I think wind is more relevant to the actual jumping. For those not familiar with the defintions I refer to above, they are: A) Geometry Building: A three dimensional shape Antenna: A vertical line Span: A horizontal line Earth: A vertical plane B) Wind Building: the wind blows around it Antenna: the wind blows throught it Span: the wind blows under it Earth: the wind blows over it It's all just silly semantics anyway, but can sometimes be an entertaining diversion.-- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

dantheman 0 #56 December 11, 2005 I try not to get too caught up in the 'classification of objects' debate; to me they are all basejumps. At an early stage of my base career someone (can't even remember who) stated that you could only class the object as an A if it had guy wires. I adhere to that school of thought for the reason that avoiding the wires singles this object out from the others; you have to consider wind speed and direction, your exit point, delay, canopy control, dealing with off heading openings. I have jumped many freestanders and pylons and can fully appreciate the argument for calling them A's, but for me -no. I posted on the British base board a while back under the title 'to B or not to B,' asking the same question about B's. Some people call gastowers, cooling towers, chimnies, cranes on top of buildings, silos B's. Personally, i like to keep things simple; if you jumped a dam ( for example) and called it a B, would you jump a building and call it a dam? Laters. DTM. PS. Last night/early this morning i jumped objects 102 and 103, a chimney and a building- that's an O, and a B, not an A and a B, or 2B's. Like i said previously 'me, me, me, me, me...' 460 0 #58 December 12, 2005 Wow, I'm very impressed with some of the responses so far. Welp, one day I'll surpass 100 objects, once I get this student debt off my back and can travel out of my immediate area. I'm still proud of being about to 35 local objects or so. The whole world is jumpable!Looks like a death sandwich without the bread - Steve Deadman Morrell, BASE
udder 0 #59 December 13, 2005 What about poor west aussies? I'd like to get into BASE and as far as I can see I'd be impressed if our entire state(i think it's 3 times the size of texas) has more than 10 jumpable objects."In one way or the other, I'm a bad brother. GeordieSkydiver 0 #60 December 13, 2005 Your not looking hard enough. I saw more than that a couple of years ago, and I wasn't even really looking. Perth itself has some awesome buildings.Lee _______________________________ In a world full of people, only some want to fly, is that not crazy? http://www.ukskydiver.co.uk
gus 1 #61 December 13, 2005 QuoteMy idea is that a 1 in 3 object to jump ratio is good. 3:1 really would be outstanding and VERY hard work. Unless you only have 3 jumps! Gus (37 in 170 = 5:1)OutpatientsOnline.com
TVPB 0 #62 December 14, 2005 Yep - the joys of travel, time, being focused on BASE for a number of years, competing with friends on who can conquer the most virgins, being bored with regular objects on occasion, being in other places at certain times a/c other commitments, because they are there, it's not that hard when you start looking, and I love virgins. Just did a new bridge the other day too. Stay Safe - Have Fun - Good Luck The above could be crap, thought provoking, useful, or . . But not personal. You decide. dantheman 0 #63 December 14, 2005 Don't bother coming to essex if you love virgins. The only reason Jesus wasn't born in essex is because they couldn't find 3 wise men and a virgin called mary... DTM.

cpoxon 0 #66 January 7, 2006 Not me, but reading through an old issue of Skydiving from back in 1993 (don't ask) , there is a picture of Dennis McGlynn making his 330th fixed object jump, and he says that 100 of his BASE jumps have been made at different "locations" (is that different from objects?). edit for site name ~TASkydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live
