deurich2003 0 #1 February 27, 2004 First off I hope I put this in the right section.... I've already ordered a TNJK and I'm seriosly considering the fact that maybe the PD 126R is a bit too small for me. Does anyone use a PD 143R in a TNJK? If I'm unconscience under the 126 @ 1.66 WL, will I land like a sack of poo or what (I assume death is likely)? I was told to demo the 126R and at the same time was told that it doesn't really fly at that wing loading(?). It more or less will slow my decent but the forward speed would be much less than I'm used to. In addition, the stall would be quite short regarding toggle stroke. (I do know I'm under the max weight spec as reported by PD.) I'm looking for some experienced advice and recommendations. Obviously the PD 143R would be the prudent choice all things being equal. riggerrob 643 #2 February 27, 2004 What does Sun Path's sizing chart say about that reserve/container combination?
deurich2003 0 #3 February 27, 2004 I believe they say "126-135 sq ft" size reserve for the TJNK.... Never Give up! Never Surrender!
PhreeZone 20 #4 February 27, 2004 The PD 126 packs as large if not larger then a Raven -M 135. The 143R packs a tab larger then a Raven -M 150. If you just sent in the order call Sunpath and have them change it. They are still probally 2.5-3 months from starting work on your container if the order was just submitted.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
mr2mk1g 10 #5 February 27, 2004 I can't give you experianced advice but I can provide a couple of figures you might be able to work with: The PD 143r has an actual size of 151 square foot and a pack volume of 343 cubic inches. The PD 125r has an actual size of 137 square foot and a pack volume of 296 cubic inches. (source: Para-Gear)
TimDave 0 #6 February 27, 2004 The PD-143R should fit into the TJNK fine. Your rigger may grumble but it will fit. My 126 flew very well loaded at 1.5 (I was concious though Your post here seems to tell me that you already know the right answer. Don't order the sexy small little container if you are not comfortable with what's inside. You are probably in luck since the 143 should be fine. It will probably fit as-is, but changing your order might result in a better looking and potentially safer rig. Reserve pin protectors can have trouble remaining seated securely in the bottom flap if the reserve volume gets too big, and some riser covers don't work well if the reserve is overstuffed. Are the sizes of all their canopies wrong like that?__________________________________________________ I started skydiving for the money and the chicks. Oh, wait. diablopilot 2 #9 February 27, 2004 QuoteForgive me for the mild threadjack, but why don't they just call them a 151 and a 137 then? Are the sizes of all their canopies wrong like that? Because by PD's measurements they ARE a 126 and a 143. The Para-Gear measurements are from a canopy size and volume study done by Sandy Ried of Rigging Innovations a few years back. He used the PIA measuring method on multiple manufactures canopies to try to establish some sort of standardized reference. Short Version: A PDR 126 is 137 sq ft by the PIA standard A Mircro Raven 120 is 114 sq ft by the PIA standard A Swift Plus 225 is 231 sq ft by the PIA standard It's the problem of having no accepted standard.---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
SCR10480 0 #10 February 28, 2004 I pack a PD160R into one of my J-1's (said to only hold a 143) and a PD176R in the other J-1...they fit fine!
