Trebec 0 #1 June 23, 2006 does anybody have any comments using these camears While jumping. Somebody mentioned the HC3 skips sometimes. Has anyone experienced this? Any help would be great.
yuri_base 1 #2 June 23, 2006 I jump HC1 and it skips, too. This is because current HD cameras record to standard DV tapes at standard bit rate of 25Mbps, so they use the keyframing compression: every 15 frames (1/2s) a key frame is recorded, the other 14 frames record the difference from the key frame. Thus, if the key frame ends up on a bad spot on the tape, the whole half second is lost. Using Sony's higher quality tapes with "HD" designation presumably reduces the incidence of skips, but I've had skips with them, too. These tapes are pricey (~$10-13). Also, you may lose ~0.5-1s on opening due to opening shock (2-3s no slider). Yuri PS. It's not that bad, though: ~1 skip per 2 tapes.Android+Wear/iOS/Windows apps: L/D Vario, Smart Altimeter, Rockdrop Pro, Wingsuit FAP iOS only: L/D Magic Windows only: WS Studio
Trebec 0 #3 June 23, 2006 do you find the HC1 to heavy, or is it not that bad to jump with. When you say one skip per two tapes, is that from all the footage one those tapes theres on average one skip.
tfelber 0 #4 June 23, 2006 I also jump the HC1. I haven't noticed any skipping, but I do get pauses occasionally due to opening shock or any sharp impact. I just set the "Steadyshot" to OFF to see if the problem goes away, but haven't jumped this setting yet. As for weight(661g) it weighs less than the trv30(680g). The image quality is fantastic. Look at Yuri's cliff strike video and notice the color in the rocks, and that's a reduced quality image. I did some testing the last couple of days with a 3CCD Panasonic and the HC1 was far superior in every aspect even when comparing DV to DV. At $1100 to $1300 though you better like it. yuri_base 1 #5 June 23, 2006 It's not that bad (with a small battery and a tiny wide angle adapter (Century 0.55x)), but I wouldn't take it on a 2.5s+ delay - 2s is max for me. Terminal openings with vented Flik feel like ~2.5s no slider, so it's marginal. As for skips, I had 3-4 skips on one Sony Premium tape, the average for all the footage on all other tapes is 1 skip per ~2 tapes.Android+Wear/iOS/Windows apps: L/D Vario, Smart Altimeter, Rockdrop Pro, Wingsuit FAP iOS only: L/D Magic Windows only: WS Studio
tfelber 0 #7 June 23, 2006 Yuri's just a puss (no personal attack just stating facts Tom, ask him) I took my Flick terminal (twice), small mesh slider and a D-bag, with my camera on no worse for wear. The openings were abrupt but the camera didn't bother me.
yuri_base 1 #8 June 23, 2006 QuoteThe openings were abrupt but the camera didn't bother me. Of course! With no gray matter and thick red neck, you won't feel a thing! (no personal attack, just stating facts you already know, Tom.)
