Caption says, Belgium's Johan Vervoort gestures while leaping from Malaysia's landmark KL Tower in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday, Aug. 27. Vervoort is among 80 BASE (Building, Antenna, Span and Earth) jumpers who are in Kuala Lumpur for the upcoming 49th anniversary of the country's independence, recognized on Aug. 31.

The Daily Mail newspaper in the UK had a couple of page spread the other day, also featuring a couple of pictures of Johan. One looked like he was getting off with his legs crossed with his hands making "inverted V" signals! The caption to that said he had 600 jumps, but I heard that Johan actually made his 1000th out there, and was thrown off the tower! Nice one brother!

I was the photographer in the scene for that 1000th jump. :)
They aren't great photos, I took at least a thousand photos from the top of that tower some are good, some are of Ron's boots.

That same pic made it on page 42 of Sports Illustrated 9/4/06 edition.

Caption: Picture This
There is no questioning the bravery of Belgium's Johan Vervoort, even if he did back down from this challenge. Vervoort and 80 others hurled themselves off the 1,381-foot Kuala Lumpur Tower, the world's fifth-tallest freestanding tower, last week. Daredevils from around the world flock to the KL Tower International Jump every August. Said Jason Cyran, an Australian skydiving instructor, "This is a safe place to try out tricky stunts in the air." Makes you wonder about Cyran's idea of a dangerous place.
