NickDG 23 #3 October 31, 2006 I won't go that far, but yes, it really isn't BASE music. And the shame of it – it's the very reason there is no BASE music . . . When Carl Boenish put out his films both on skydiving and BASE jumping he either used public domain tunes (it was Bach or Beethoven, I think, for the El Cap stuff) but he also hired Mike Lloyd (or was it Mike Curb?) who was a professional songwriter (he went on to score many porn films) and some of that music is in Carl's films too. It's also the reason (or at least the only good reason) Jean Boenish gets so bent out of shape when people pirate Carl's films. They cost a small fortune to produce. Look at the Freak Brother films from the early days of the Convention. Much of that was original music about skydiving and it was so good it still holds up today. If Roger had just used Led Zepp, or something, we wouldn't have those tunes today. Many years ago Kenny Rogers, the singer, once asked about doing a BASE jump after seeing it on TV. I talked him down from it (he had no idea what was involved) but I always knew we sort of lost out, as I'm sure he would have written a very cool song about BASE jumping. One other thing is the current crop of BASE films (nothing really special about them, except the current crop is always cool) are good enough to click with the mainstream. But once you are tainted with stealing music, as a film maker, you're a dead man walking . . . Exchanging money for the work other people did is a decision both buyer and seller have to make for themselves. But I wish some of you would just consider hiring a garage band to come up with something original and who knows, sooner or later, a BASE anthem would be born . . . pocbase 0 #4 October 31, 2006 ...Besides, it's really not that hard to get legal stuff. In that I mean there are so many good bands out there looking for exposure. One awesome french band called 'Trinitro' ('Pennywise' kind of stuff, perfect for BASE) were totally stoked when they saw some of the stuff we do to some of their music. In fact, Nick, I am still to send you a copy of the newer movie, this time with 'legal' music. Post office tomorrow, expect it in a couple of weeks. pocThe bums will never win Lebowski, the bums will never win! Enfin j'ai trouvé: Bieeeen

hollyhjb 0 #9 October 31, 2006 If you want to use copyrighted music it's super easy, permission is not required! Simply obtain a license (about $10 per song, good for up 2500 copies) and pay the statutory royalty rate: 9.1 Cents (USD) for songs 5 minutes or less or 1.75 Cents (USD)per minute or fraction thereof over 5 minutes. This is for each copy you make of the recording (including the original one). Contact the Harry Fox Agency (harryfox.com), for payment details for both licenses and royalties, and all payments can be made directly to HFA. You may have to contact the master recording owner or artist royalty rep. (Sesac, Ascap, or BMI) for a video license. You can find out which one from Harry Fox. If the recording was made in a country outside of the United States you will have to research their copyright laws, but most are more lenient than the US. Thats really interesting.....I am working on a project that essentially contains a great deal of music I have no 'rights' to include for sale and was worried about this...I didnt realise it was this cheap to pay royalties........thanks
