THe satandard DZ school (may take up to 2 or 3 months to copmplete) or this A license in a week program outside of Houston. AggieDave 6 #2 May 30, 2011 Well it is hard to go wrong with the instruction at SD Spaceland. It is a good DZ with really good instructors. As long as you have the weather, you'll get your jumps in. Doing the jumps over a few months at a local DZ is to be appreciated as well, building relationships and friendships... I was hoping to get my A license as quickly as possible by cramming in as many jumps in over a weekend as I could get, being as the DZ is about a 3.5-hour drive away. Once I got to the DZ and started hanging out with the people there, I realized how much I like hanging out with them, and have slowed down on my progression. I realized I'm going to keep going back there again and again, year after year anyway, so no need to rush things. I make about 3 or 4 jumps on a weekend if I can afford it, and if the weather is good. I still want to get my license by the end of the summer, but just going and hanging out with the group that hangs there is about as much fun as jumping. The advice I get is always great, and watching friends jump / land is a great time. Taking your time and stretching it out definitely isn't the only way to go, and I'm not trying to say that one would be preferable over the other. I'm only stating that I'm having an outstanding time stretching the progression out over a couple of months, and am developing great bonds with fun mentors. After spending yesterday around this group it is faily obvious that I will be seeing a great deal of them over the next few years so I might as well start making these long term friends now. Good deal! Buy beer. Bring the beer to the DZ. Share the beer with your new friends. You'll be amazed as to amount of "free" instruction you learn after the beer light turns on at the DZ! That is also when the experienced jumpers sit around and discuss all sorts of things about jumping and the sport.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
