Rounds...

Recommended Posts

I can't find any info or I guess I don't know where to look?! This is more of a curiosity question than any thing else...

-and this may seem like a stupid question to some of you, BUT, is there such a thing as a BASE SPECIFIC round?

Thanks

Both Apex and Asylum (CR) have BASE specific rounds. I believe 19ft

But for 50 bucks you can score yourself a Phantom 24' with pH test done and kevlar reinforcement.

your call :)

P.S. Apex calls their H2O and Asylum calls theirs Tektite

I did just this for BD last year....was one of the most rewarding BASE jumps I've made.

Ive seen a lot of rounds go in the water. And I see that they are made(for BASE) for H2O landings, but what about landing on the ground, site and object permitting?!(If there is such a place.)
Thanks!

If you use the search function here and on Blinc, you will see numerous posts referring to early BASE jumpers using rounds. Even the #1 on the list is a round jump.

In short if you know what the fuck you are doing, and the landing area is big, and the canopy is big enough (or you are small enough) - I don't see a problem doing it. I would consider it more a stunt than a regular run of the mill BASE jump. People were jumping rounds for decades, and landing them on dry land, no reason it cant be done now :)

I've had friends who made their first 10 building jumps in a large metro downtown area with round canopies. Wear a helmet is all I can say.

With the appropriately sized round I'm sure you could land it safely on dry ground. The descent rate of the 22 ft I jumped was a bit too high for comfort. The BASE specific rounds in production today are even smaller.

people who BASE jump should realize they are test jumpers. what works for one, may NOT work for anyone else. you need to decide for yourself.

'course, I recommend taking small steps. so feel free to head out to a dz and jump a round parachute. see if you find it acceptable before using it in the BASE environment. jumping the round will also educate you on what you need in a site and the appropriate weather to perform the jump "safely."

I gave up intentionally using rounds after too many jumps. 3 to be exact.;)

I've got about 5 different rounds. You're welcome to jump one of them. Two are already in rigs, actually.

Nope PDA rounds have only ever seen much use in BASE as pilot chutes. I think the problems mostly had to do with oscillation and landability (plus, by the time they were more refined, we were pretty much all on squares).

I believe that somone tested one (or maybe more than one someone) for use as a building escape rig.
