MMK 0 #1 March 20, 2007 HUALAPAI INDIAN RESERVATION, Ariz. - Indian leaders and a former astronaut stepped gingerly beyond the Grand Canyon's rim Tuesday, staring through the glass floor and into the 4,000-foot chasm below during the opening ceremony for a new observation deck. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070320/ap_on_re_us/grand_canyon_skywalk;_ylt=Aq0Bv6bCNngae2q48JtPiBqs0NUE Just My Penny - 'No comments are meant to offend individuals and are purely a personal view presented by myself'. VincentVL. 0 #4 March 21, 2007 Why is the fence ultralow? From the looks of it you can tumble over by tripping/being pushed. It's like they're encouraging people to jump it.
AndrewKarnowski 0 #5 March 21, 2007 if you look at the slideshow pictures... there's a low-ish visible fence, and a taller glass fence outside of that.
HydroGuy 0 #6 March 21, 2007 Has there ever been an object burned so bad before it was actually under construction? They're probably waiting to bust the first jumper there so it can be put all over CNN and get them more free publicity.Get in - Get off - Get away....repeat as neccessary
leroydb 0 #7 March 21, 2007 Why is everyone so focused on the BUST... has anyone called to try to set up a legal event there? How much more continuing ongoing publicity woudl they garner over a "one" time bust to be put on CNN. Remember its an Indian Nation... US laws don't appply... hell just ask them and they might say yes...Leroy ..I knew I was an unwanted baby when I saw my bath toys were a toaster and a radio... wwarped 0 #15 March 21, 2007 QuoteCUT.... I guess what I am getting at, is what is the secrecy for? Marketing? my guess is negotiations. someone might be trying to find solutions to a variety of concerns. unless these solutions are presented to the public with the concept, many will balk at any deal. rarely are any negotiations held in public. Gary C handles things for the KL events. Jason handles things for BD. neither posts details of discussions. be patient. edited to add: read the news articles. groups opposed the structure. the local leadership chose to move forward in the hopes of providing jobs. Jobs? from people walking around a hunk of glass? doubt it. the Indians probably have a master development plan involving a variety of businesses (curio shops, gas stations, shopping centers, etc.) do you really think they plan on releasing details before all required agreements are in place? NickDG 23 #19 March 21, 2007 BASE is the thing that would make that thing click. Otherwise, it's just another pretty view. And there's thousands of those . . . A hundred and fifty thousand people don't come to Bridge Day to walk across the bridge and look at a river! Played right, this could be the Acapulco Cliff Divers of North American and last a hundred years. Employment for all . . . NickD BASE

phil6086 0 #22 March 22, 2007 Well with all the poverty in the tribe going on i'm sure if they can get that out far enough and open it to yr round base jumps alot of ppl would pay so much to use the structure especially if you could do a 3500' free fall who wouldnt want to pay per jump for that hell if it costs 20$ per skydive on average i know plenty of base jumpers who'd gladly pay for that, just my 2 cents
