Winston 0 #22 November 11, 2002 Hey Skyblade, Hier is nog 'n volbloed Suid-Afrikaner! Ek het nog nie juis veel gepos nie, maar dit meen nie dat ek jou nie kan laat welkom voel nie!!Just to introduce myself. My name is Winston [as you damn well can see!:-)] Have been working for a couple of years and decided the corporate world was not for me. A year into my masters and after discovering skydiving, I realised what a phucked-up mistake that was! I cannot skydive as much I would have had I still been working. Also, the chicks don't smaak ("like") me as much now that I don't have money! That will all change soon, hopefully. So yeah, that makes me a piss-poor student skydiver too! Ek hoop dit gaan beter met jou as met my en dat jy ook sommer lekker regkom met die meisiekinders!Winston Can't you see me standing here, I've got my ass against the Cessna's wing Can't you see what I mean You might as well jump! go ahead and jump! Scratch 0 #24 November 11, 2002 Hey Winston. I went to UCT in the late eighties. With regards to our female lecturers I like my girls with less hair on their legs than on their heads. Siiigh the good old days. Teargas, rubber bullets and petrol bombs. Happy five hours at the Pig n Whistle. Buy one crate and get one free. Oh and AIDs was unheard of
Winston 0 #25 November 11, 2002 Hey Scratch! I am a Natal University (PMB) boykie. Studied here from beginning 1992. Worked for a couple of years in South Africa's Big Apple (Joey's) and am now back in PMB doing the study thing full-time again. The traffic to and from Joburg really sucked though, as I had to negotiate my way from Randburg (close to the MTN Sundome) into the city centre every ph*cking day. However, there were always time for beers after hours in Melville, Rosebank and such where one could while away the time in order to miss peak hour in the afternoon. When I returned to PMB this year, I was caught off-guard by the fact that my favourite watering hole, the Varsity Club, had closed down because some coffin dodger in the vicinity had complained about the excessive noise stemming from the VC at night. Even the residences are now plagued with rules like (1) no drinking a;llowed in them (2) "Noise Hour" (I mean, WTF? ) during wwhich we're allowed to make "noise" (from 15h30 to 20h30 - can you believe this shit?). However, you can't keep a good student down, dude, I tell you. We have corrupted the Resident's Assistants to the extent where they even drink with us in the residence. We smoke weed in them, etc. I stay in the so-called post-grad residence. They are communal, 7 students share a kitchen and lounge and in some blocks you would find up to six regular Mary-Jane smokers on one floor. Can you believe that shit? You can imagine how openly this shit is being cleaned, smoked in whatever fashion imaginable. And where you have a diverse group such as men/women, internation/national/local students together, there aren't many tricks you can pull concerning how to mix your drinks or what to do with your weed, or how many ways and out of what you can smoke it. On the academic side, it seems that not many things have changed as far as the standards of this University is concerned. Indeed, I have a tough time with my supervisors, one Polish and another South African who's a Fellow of the Royal Statistical Society (Viva, Women, Viva!) as much of the stuff I am working on is pretty much advanced and relatively new (Mixed Models, both linear and non-linear). I believe that the standards of both Wits and UCT are pretty much intact? I don't want to specualte on Maties but I do know that the Faculty of Forestry has taken such a serious knock that the upper echelons decided to merge it with the Faculty of Science! Like a friend of mine said: "Forestry is like sex; you can read up about it but you'll never know what it's like unless you experience it for yourself!" Yep, why have forestry in the Western Cape when you can't even grow a forest there, I mean, f$&!! Any Matie want to come to the defense here?!?Oh, before I forget! We had a German female exchange student here who left about a month ago. She had to get rid of some stuff she did not need to take with her. Talking about hair on the legs, she boosted me her shaving cream. What with the prize of shaving gel these days, there were no way on mother Earth I would decline shaving cream especially with all the other expenses (booze, booze and infinitely more booze) I have!! And, no, I don't shave my legs!. And I do have aftershave to conceal the musky smell of the shaving cream! Have I mentioned that she also gave me her Lip-Ice?Anyway, got to run. One day when I'm in Citrusdal we'll have beer!Rock on Winston
