Finally...she posts!

Recommended Posts

Hiya everybody!

Newbie here -- I finally mustered up enough courage to come out of lurk mode. At first I had no idea what to say, and then I was further deterred by the fact that my boyfriend is quite eager to create some kind of mischief around my posts in these forums!

The introduction -- I'm in Chicago, jump at Chicagoland Skydiving, and I'm still on student status. I've got nine jumps (3 tandem, 6 solo) and everything was going well until I dislocated my shoulder on my Level 3. :(

Totally weird because it was a great skydive, and I had good canopy control. It's just that when I finished my flare, my right arm decided that it wasn't happy in its socket. That happened at the end of September, and I haven't jumped since...looking forward to wind tunnel training in February, though!

Anyway, nice to meet all of you -- definitely a fun bunch to watch. Hopefully I'll be participating more instead of just reading...no promises, though. ;)

Cheers!
-P

Hi ya! I had an injury on my level 3 also. Let's just say off course, avoided haystack, flared too high, killed my knee. Went para-hiking and couldn't jump for almost 3 weeks. Graduated. Worth every bump and bruise I got. Lovin' it!

Hi! I think I saw you a while ago when I was at Chicagoland! I saw a girl with her arm in a sling and with a yellow A-license card, anyway... She was talking about how it was funny that she had a shirt that said www.skydive.com and had an arm in a sling; the injury needed no explanation. Was that you? :)

Yup, that was probably me! The DZOs were teasing me and my friend Heather for hanging around the dropzone when we were both injured (she had a sprained ankle and was on crutches) -- bad advertising! The skydive.com clothing + sling did impress my whuffo friends, though. ;)

Dunno why TD gave me the yellow A-license card -- I guess he figured that I could fill out SOME of it. Next season!

I was the one that was there the second (really windy) day of the NSL regionals with one of the guys from Booty Surf. I'd been jumping at SDC the day before and needed a ride home from one of the guys. Sitting on the couch trying to do my anthropology homework, to no avail...

Oh, don't let that stop you. Most of us have no idea what we're saying or why we're saying it the majority of the time. ;) Post on, post often!

Hi and welcome. Hope you heal quickly and can get back up in the air soon. Oh...and if you heal before spring, don't let the cold air stop you from jumping. :)

I notice you've the Irish language spelling for craic, have you been to Ireland or got family here?

Unfortunately, I've not been to Ireland...yet. I do have a fondness for Irish culture, though. I first learned about the word "craic" when I was drinking with three Irishmen at a huge Oktoberfest (?!) party. By the end of the night we were standing on our chairs and singing very loudly. It wasn't pretty, but it was great fun! Ol, ceol agus craic! :D

Glad to see that you are going for tunnel training so early in your career! Airspeed Camp?
B|

Not Airspeed Camp as such, but the next best thing that I can afford... My dropzone plans a trip to SkyVenture every year -- 20-30 people, all different levels. I'm hoping that the rest of my AFF program will be easier after tunnel training!

Oh, Lisa. I know this is the forem for the newbies, but I just got around to reading it, and just had to give an example for the comment you made...
