GypsyRN 0 #1 July 26, 2003 Started skydiving about 2yrs ago....I still am on student status with 13 jumps....I was making my level 9 jump and had problems with vertigo...I was tracking after doing a front flip and back flip ...I became disoriented (first time) and failed to open my chute...the instructor, seeing was having problems, pulled my pilot at 2500 ft when he caught up with me....I landed in a cornfield and broke my right foot.... This jump really trashed my confidence.....I also did my first head out exit from a super otter...awesome!! I have had trepidation about going back to skydiving,I am embarassed and frightened about what happened up there....very glad Brian pulled out for me...I did have an AAD on the rig.......I feel like the worst skydiver ever.... This is the first time I have posted here,I just found this site and registered.....I still watch some of my training videos I have and long to get back in the sky again....HELP@

AntiGravity 0 #3 July 26, 2003 Hey GypsyRN! Welcome to the site!I am a student as well i stated july1st i am doin my aff level 4 this monday. I did my afflevel 3 yesterday and i had to take it 3times, b/c i kept forgetting to keep track of my legs. the first time i went into a vey fast spin to the right i couldnt break out of it, and i was trying hard to get out of the spin but ended up making it worse by spinning faster, it i kept checkin my alti and at around 4800 i pulled the chute andwas like hell with it if i get line twist i need that chute out. my instructer kept trying to come to me to get me out but i was spinning to fast and he ciouldnt grab a hold of me, bu t the chute opend with amazingly no line twist at all thank god! i felt embaressed but as students we make these mistakes and this is when we do then and we have to learn and not give up! the hard work wil pay off and we will be masters of the sky like all the other skydivers. DONT GIVE UP!! "Will work for JUMP TICKETS"

xxxSWOOPxxx 0 #5 July 26, 2003 GYPSY I understand your plight and your fears.....but if you are like the rest of us and find yourself gazing at the sky every time you walk out the door then you must get yourself back in the air....however if you do not feel safe with skydiving anymore then DO NOT DO IT.....But remember one very important thing.....no matter what your expierence with skydiving was.....most people in the world have never had it... good luck with your decision
robskydiv 0 #6 July 26, 2003 Hi Gypsy. Check with your physician and find out if you have an inner-ear infection. This may have caused your vertigo.
MarkAtwood 0 #7 July 27, 2003 Last weekend, my first AFF jump of the day, I had a total panic attack meltdown at the door, but my instructor got my confidence, and I went out anyway, and then a few hours later went right back up again. Going up again was pretty critical to breaking the fear and embarrassment. Of course, breaking your foot kinda precluded doing that, I guess... Don't feel back about screwing up. If we (students) didn't screw up so often, we wouldn't need instructors, they could just instead haul us up to altitude and pitch us out the door right off. Hope your foot heals ok, and that you keep right on trying.
katiebear21 0 #8 July 27, 2003 Hey Dana! First off, don't get discouraged. If this is something you really want to do, take the time to mentally prepare yourself before you go up again. Use your last (bad) dive as a learning experience and turn it into something positive. If you never try again, you won't know if it's something you can overcome! Casie 0 #10 July 28, 2003 Welcome! It's normal to be scared.....have a long talk with your instructors & mentally think thru the entire jump for next time. Face your Fears & just try to relax......~Porn Kitty WARNING: Goldschlager causes extreme emotional outbursts!
SkyOCiel 0 #11 July 29, 2003 Hi Gipsy, i did my AFF 3 months ago, and i almost quit after scaring myself off on levell 5. i did the normal dive turn left 360, right 360 and was a bit unstable, but no big deal at 6k i went to open (stable) and i slaped the rip cord without grabbing it, i kept doing that which induced a very fast left spin, as i kept trying to open my jumpmaster caught up to me grabed my foot which stop my spin, i opened at the same time and was under canopy at 3500 wich might seem high, but for me, for the first time i actually saw the ground come up, which freaked me out . and the fact that i almost didn't open did not help. i stared at the sky all day (that was my first jump) and just kept telling myself that no matter i much i loved the sport, maybe it wasn't made for me... So at the end of the day, i took a walk with one of my jumpmaster and asked him, if they ever told people that maybe they should think of another sport...he said, yes they sure did and that i wasn't one of these people... So here i am 50 jumps later i love it and i'm glad i didn't stop. Just think about it and make sure that it's what you really want, and definetly do not be embarassed by it, we all had to try...i fellt completely inadequate and not cut out for skydiving, but that talk with the JM helped a lot. Good luck to you . Blue skies. S-
MikeTJumps 4 #12 July 29, 2003 Educate yourself further in the sport by reading the texts commonly available. Get back with an instructor when you are ready and that person will help you overcome your fears. We all have them at one time or another!
