projanska 0 #1 October 11, 2003 Aye, brand new Finnish student here. Just got the first canopy over my head today.. What a rush! Thanks to the Oulu Skydiving Club staffers for getting me through the basics, some nice people there. I expect to find myself in the skies every once in a while(and hopely bit more often), and I think I'll start my DZ.com career by lurking around for a while trying to suck all the good info into my brain ;) Cheers, and 'Skies to everyone. ___ "Ye Gods!" skymama 37 #2 October 12, 2003 Welcome to the fourms! She is Da Man, and you better not mess with Da Man, because she will lay some keepdown on you faster than, well, really fast. ~Billvon
projanska 0 #3 October 13, 2003 Thanks Skymama, it starts to be around freezing point during the nights here so the winter break probably starts early next month. I hope to get all my six static lines done before that, perhaps even the first two freefalls so I could get my Class A papers.. Fortunately the place where I study has a fall break next week and I have some extra cash too, in that sense I should be able to do the jumps. Here's hoping, at least :) ___ "Ye Gods!" projanska 0 #10 October 17, 2003 Quotewhere did yu see your 1st canopy fully inflated over your head? at home somewhere in finland? do you have chances to have another jump still next times without freezing? Yeah, my home DZ is at Oulu Airport ( http://www.worldpress.org/maps/maps/finland.gif ), just 15mins away from where I live, it was the first jump of my static line course from a C-182.. On freezing, it's not about how cold the air is, but what you wear! Just some warm gloves(cross-country skiing gloves are nice) and a windproof jumpsuit for climbing under the wing and you're fine. It's just that the Cessna goes to the winter storage for couple of months, it would just be too expensive to rent a heated hangar and such from the airport when there's only couple dozen jumpers.. But I have time to make half a dozen jumps before that! ___ "Ye Gods!"
