Shindagrl 0 #1 October 20, 2003 Hello, all. My dad and I are scheduled to make our first jumps this coming Saturday. We're doing IAD out of Mount Vernon, MO. Hopefully we'll have other friends going with us, but either way hubby and family will be having something along the lines of a tailgate party on the ground while they're waiting to see if we land gracefully or splat! Dad gave this to me as a gift for my 18th birthday and we never got around to doing it. I'm 32 and he's been diagnosed with cancer (but has the doctor's okay to do it), so we figured there's no better time than the present. I wasn't nervous about it until now........I know I'm going to love it!!! It's just the reality of actually doing it is here, and it's got me thrilled and skeered at the same time. I could use a few friends and some emotional support! See ya around the boards, and perhaps in the sky- Shinda An audience of 35 head of cattle was not exactly what I had in mind for that last landing......... hooked 0 #2 October 20, 2003 You are absolutely going to love it!!! Once you get out the door, you won't be "skeered"! Just remember to take some deep breaths and relax. Actually, the door is my favorite part of the dive. Has your Dad always wanted to do a skydive? What an experience for the two of you to share, what took you so long? Enjoy every minute and every shared moment with your Dad and I hope everything goes well for him.J -------------------------------------- Sometimes we're just being Humans.....But we're always Human Beings. lewis321 0 #3 October 20, 2003 The best part of your jump is going to be that it is done with your dadMy dad always talked about making one and just "never got to it". He has been gone for 3 years now. It is going to be the most memorable thing you will ever do. Just relax, You and Dad are going to rock Todd
KolibrieLinda 0 #4 October 20, 2003 Have a lot of fun. I wish my dad could only see me he's gone for seven years now. So just let it come to you and enjoy, because it is so much fun and al the rest you can say about something you love. Wish you a blue skie and a beautifull landing. Once you have done IAD I might suggest getting your dad a tandem gift certificate. Any type of skydiving is fun but freefall will give you a real view of what other skydivers out there crave and love. I started with static line and really enjoyed my jumps but once I started freefalling skydiving went into a whole nother category. Tandem is a good way to get that "whole" experience. If your dad is only wants to do 1 jump than tandem might be a better way to go. Just pointing out that there are some options. Have Fun! Thank you so much for your words of encouragement. I started getting into the message board thing when I got married (in Jamaica!),and when I really started to love cruising and wanted to know more about it; I felt that this was the right place to go for skydiving. People, all over the world, can be so beautiful and supportive. The internet is becoming such a valuable tool for a REASON. Dad and I are SO looking forward to jumping this next Saturday. Only problem is, it looks like the weather might not cooperate---winds might be up to 15mph. I'm a daring person but not stupid! I'm not at all afraid of dying; I'm afraid of being hurt. (must come from being a nurse...who wants to be on the WRONG side of the bed????) I'm hoping that at worst we can do the class on Sat, and run up to Mt. Vernon again Sun. AM and jump before I need to head up to the Chiefs vs. Bills game at about 2pm. I'm not allowed to be more "ate up" with skydiving than football until I've experienced it....then y'all better watch out!!! Many smiles and hopes for a lovely sky- Shinda An audience of 35 head of cattle was not exactly what I had in mind for that last landing......... I know we'll love it. Dad's been wanting to do it for about ......14 years! The cancer issue sucks in many ways; as in, not "curable", but remissions can be a wonderful thing. More importantly, he still has a serious lust for life and is RET TO GO!!! When we jump he'll be only two weeks into chemotherapy again after 2 1/2 months off, so he's at HIS healthiest, and has a doc note to back this up. Funny, he asked his doctor if he could go, and Mr. MD's answer was, "Well, I've NEVER had a patient ask that before, but of course you can!". How cool is that. The nurse told him he couldn't because jumping out of an airplane was just WRONG. Guess which healthcare practictioner he's listening to! We're still watching the weather and keeping our fingers crossed. We're so close that I'm just numb to worry and fear. WHY BOTHER????? You'll jump, or at the last minute you'll chicken out (and neither of us lay eggs, so I don't see that happening!) It'll be freakin' awesome................!!!!!!!!!!!!! The only semi-negative comment I have is to Pa2themd (yep, I get the reference). I find the "flashing neon blue ones" at the end of your sig VERY unsettling. There will be NO flashing lights at all unless they're cameras......certainly not a BAMBULANCE!!!!!!!! (although I totally felt the love in the body of your post!) Blue skies, don't bother me.........blue skies, would TITTILLATE me!!!!! I climb trees, I can certainly climb out of "De plane!! De Plane!!!".
