Im anxivous, (anxious + nervous) Pls help

Recommended Posts

Hi every1,

Ive always wanted to jump. But never had the guts, Then I met my g/f. and shes always wanted to jump. Well its her B-day the 1st week of March and Im surprising her with it.

But where to? I live in Miami, Florida. Ive heard of several places, W.Palm Beach, Keys, Okochobee but where to?

The nerves set in a little so I started thinking about safety. as in which of those 3 spots has a better safety record, but realistically is that something to take into account. i mean, if a place is unsafe, Im sure word would get around and everyone would jump on them for tainting the sport right? In other words, safety is a given right?

I have a lot of questions and I would really appreciate the replies.

The biggest question is where to do it. Taking into account safety and professionalism of the place.

I really have my eyes set on the one in the Keys because she loves the keys. So I know she would love to see the keys from up above.

Welcome to the boards. . .I don't know where Miami is in relationship to these places but I hear that Skydive Deland, Skydive Sebastian and Skydive Zepher Hills are great places. . .Course there is a Skydive Miami also.

I am sure some of the MANY Florida skydivers will come along any moment and provide feedback on these DZ's. . .

Again, welcome. . .

Don't forget about Lake Whales DZ.

Go to www.uspa.org and check the list of group members. You can also call each of the DZ's and see if they can help answer some of your specific questions.
Good luck!

Welcome to the forum. Good luck on your up coming jump. I can't help on any of the DZ there, but as it has been mention above this is a good place to get information on the sport and local DZs.
Let us know how the jumps goes.

Thanks every1 for the nice welcome. Who knew that people that jumped out of planes were so nice!

The information Ive gotten is great and Im looking forward to it. I need to call and ask some questions. i guess that'll be the best way to find the right spot.

I'll post my result the following week. Thanks again!

Hi Gil, and welcome.
I guess I would heartily recommend you come out to Skydive SoBe (the DZ located at the SE shore of Lake Okeechobee). The people there are friendly and experienced, and the view over the lake is really cool, and the dropzone itself is broad (which makes landings easier when you have a big field to touch down in). Check out Skydive SoBe

I don't work there, but I'm a regular and I really love the place.

hi there,
you can go to Skydive Miami (in Homestead), it's the closest to Miami.
That's where the story started for me.
Awesome people, nice place. 200 bucks the 1st tandem, 100 for the next one if you buy it the same day (3 months to jump it...)

I agree with piisfish, give Skydive Miami a call. They're just a little ways off Rt. 1 in Homestead. (www.skydivemiami.com) I just got back from a vacation in the Keys & just so happens I jumped there yesterday, it was AWESOME!! Great group of people, good facility & equipment. Check out their website. I believe they have some specials going on now & reduced prices if you pay cash as well. That's my recommendation. Also....If she's crazy about the Keys, there's also Skydive Key West. I don't know much about them other than to say they're just north of Key West. Their website isn't much help, but it does list their phone#. If I would have had more time I would have checked them out as well. Good luck & let us know how it goes!! You're gonna love it!! See Ya!! Don

No. It's likely, but not a given. Airplanes can crash, instructors can make mistakes, equipment can fail, students can make mistakes, shit can happen.

For most of us the rush is worth the risk.

Let us know what you thought about it after you jump. :)
