First AFF Jump yesterday

Recommended Posts

Hi !

I did a Tandem jump last year and I of course got immediately hooked. I decided to take it a level further and start my AFF course this season.

I have been rained out the last 3 weekends but yesterday I was finally able to go (my wife said that she was thankful for the change in weather as she was getting ready to kill me ;))

What a rush !!! AFF is a trillion times better than being a Tandem passenger but also more stressfull. The whole time in freefall I more or less felt like I was watching myself. I knew exactly what I had to do and when I was supposed to do it but for some reason I had a very hard time with the altimeter. I mean, I could read it clearly and see the numbers but my brain must have been left in the plane because I was unable to translate those numbers to altitude. So I got the finger (love that expression) when we reached pull altitude... Oh well....

The canopy ride was really fun. I like that part almost as much as I like freefall. The landing was ok, slid in on my butt but it was not a hard landing at all. Unfortunately my video guy was not able to film the landing as he had a SEVERE linetwist and by the time he had it untangled he was landing off the dropzone (in the Video I can actually hear him cursing at the canopy B|).

I can not wait to get up again and this time actually concentrate more on the altimeter.

Thank you for letting me ramble here as everybody in my family and all of my friends run away from me as soon as I mention skydive. Ha ha ha !

Blue skies,

Christian

Hi Dude!

Welcome to the world of skydivers - obession with the weather, kit and latest way to turn on the spot...:PB|

I say welcome because IMHO you are now a skydiver - you saved your own life (with prompting!!) and that's enough for me, although everyone has their own opinion...

Enjoy and good luck with the rest of AFF...:)
Frank.

Welcome to your new addiction.

I just started a new job and it only took a few days for my new co-workers to start getting that glazed over look when I start to talk about skydiving.

Good luck and have fun.

--When they get that look, start talking about how all those golf courses are such a waste of real estate and water trying to keep them so green and then what fantastic dz's could be built on them......

Hang in there, AFF can go slow but you will make it.

Thank you. I will mark this one down as a learning experience and I look forward to Level 2. Hopefully the weather will be nice this weekend!

As for Argon's suggestion about the golf courses. I'll keep that one in mind. That is a good one!;)

.... yes we do enjoy hearing about and talking about skydiving here,,, ( thanks sangiro ) because we recognize it for the educational opportunity it offers,,, ( we also like the chance to see interesting links,B| look at cool photos, and hear a wide WIDE range of opinions)
well Done Christian... attached are some jpegs of your # 1 AFF skydive,,,,, As well as a pic. of my 7 rotations line twists....
( we we're VERRRRY long... I deployed at 4,500 feet AGL,,,, that Spectre 210 surprised the hell outta me, by running round and round on opening....)....
BUT the canopy was fully inflated, no damage to lines or fabric, the slider was down, ( to the top of the twists) BOTH my brakes were still set,,,, AND I knew I had bookoo altitude... The tie up stopped,,, and with a fair bit of effort I was making progress towards un twisting.... But I'll say this .... it was an effort.... Lots of torqueing around with my legs and right arm.... I did an altitude check halfway through the untwist and was above 3,200 feet... The connector links finally spread away from one another
by 2,600 feet or so.... I'm glad not to have needed to do a cutaway and reserve deployment...;)
sorry to have missed the landing shot brother... I owe you at least a beer...:S :)

Nah.... You're good! You made it up with that really nice shot of me in Freefall ! I just expected the Video and the picture was a VERY welcome bonus. :)Besides, I have a problem with american beer. Someday I will have to introduce you to the REAL good stuff. I'll just have to be careful not to mention that when my time comes to follow the beer rules or it might get expensive and I won't have money anymore to jump. ;)
I was wondering if Frontier had beer rules but I found out when someone mentioned, that that would be his first time to jump from the Cessna and everybody started yelling "Beer !". I really love that place !

Now that's a great idea! I am in a corporate environment so there are a lot of goofers, oh sorry golfers, around. I bet landing on one of those manicured greens would be oh so soft and there are little flags at every hole to tell you the wind direction.;)
