Help me!

Hi, my names Ben and I am looking at getting into skydiving. I was wondering if anyone could drop me a few pointers on a good set up for around 4 grand. I'm also moving to NC soon and was wondering where the best places to jump are. On a side note I am 20 years old and find chicks who skydive ridiculously attractive. Responses to any three of the above would be awesome.

Go through your training first and get some jumps under your belt before you start looking for a rig. A good place to start looking is in the Classifieds here on the site.

Which area are you going to be moving to? If you check out the dropzone listings on the site, you'll find the closest one to you. You can also check out reviews on the dropzone.

I am from Grensboro NC and usually jump at Skydive Carolina ( just south of Charlotte), have jumped at Raeford and have visited Carolina SkySports. All three are very student friendly. I agree with " wait in th new rig" comment. As you see I have very few jumps but am still waiting a while on a rig.

WHAT IS THERE NOT TO BE ATTRACTED TO ? Other than my wife ( who doesn't jump ). They are possibly the hottest thing going.

I am a student with 16 jumps, and I have been jumping at Carolina Sky Sports in Louisburg, NC since the start. Everyone there is very friendly and helpful, and the instructors know what they are doing and are great teachers. I can't say enough good things about that DZ.

I'm selling a rig, but I am also a lot smaller than you lol. That's awesome that you are only 20 and that you are avid about skydiving. I'm the same way been waiting four years to jump and now I finnaly can.

Wait a while to buy a rig and don't buy anything brand new unless you know you'll be happy with it and won't be downsizing (switching to a smaller canopy) for a long while.

When I jumped at first it was a manta, but now I'm confident I'll survive the landing (If I'm very conservative) on a 170. (That is over 100 sq. ft. less than a manta. You'll notice a big difference) They still can be quite scary if you play it the wrong way. Also take into consideration your wing loading and experience. I'm no instructor so don't take my words to heart, but it's safe to say one of your instructors will know what suits you best.

Thanks yea I have been packing for four years now. The rig that i was buying didn't quite fit me like I wanted in freefall. Anyways needless to say, I have been jumping a 149 saphire and I hate it. It's soo floaty I feel like i'm suspended from a cloud rather than a wing.

brandi is the 1st aff student that ive seen that would rather do hop and pops then altitude loads.

Ugg, I'm still not looking forward to my Hop and Pop, it will soon be the only thing left for my A License...

Omg! I find them the most mindless thing on this planet. Openings dont hurt. Freefall freaks me out, I guss because theres nothing to grab i'm still working on that lol. And I know canopies inside and out so I am way more comfortable just doing hop and pops.

I don't know what altitude you're doing your hop and pop from, but you really needn't worry. Just exit, arch stable and pull. My last jump for my A-licence was a 6000' hop and pop and it really isn't something to worry about.

Our hop and pop altitude is 3,500 feet.... I know it's really nothing to worry about, just lower than I've even pulled before :)

Can understand that. I suppose my 6,000 must seem stratospheric compared to that, but I know what you mean. Jumping from 6k felt like leaping off a roof after being used to going from 14k. Just go for it, and look forward to a nice soft opening.
