GeordieSkydiver 0 #1 September 28, 2004 Hello there, Geordie here, live in Newcastle in England, anyone from around that way? Wheres to jump, shotton colliery? I've done 70 odd jumps, but I didnt jump for 10 years, I'm out in California just now, working, there's a jump centre (California city) just 40 minutes away, so I went down and requalified. Done 20+ jumps this past 3 weeks. This time, I'm not letting this sport slip away from me again... Blue skies.... ukJump 0 #3 September 28, 2004 Wow 20 Jumps in 3 weeks, not likely to happen in peterlee, especially if you work too! I'm from up there but now down south. in the 'notsobad' weather. Blue Skies!
GeordieSkydiver 0 #4 October 3, 2004 You know, I cant notice too many differences. BOC instead of legbag, some fashion stuff too. I haven't jumped too much in the UK (9 or 10 jumps in Northern Ireland) mostly in Canada and Germany (and now the US). I've been very impressed with the whole thing, attitudes, professionalism, friendlyness, its got me hooked again! I'm gonna keep current when I get back to the UK, however, I dont think I'll be able to match the 5 jumps per day that I'm doing each weekend here! My home DZ will be Peterlee, but I work in East Anglia, so UKParachuting is closest I think. Blue Skies... Shanediver 0 #5 October 3, 2004 Welcome back...I, too, just got back into the sport after about four years out. I ran into financial woes and ended up selling my rig -- it was a quick ease out of the sport. Not going to do that again. Once I get a new rig, I'll stand in the bean line before I sell it again. Me and a buddy went to a local DZ and made a jump last weekend, and that's all it took...just a little taste. The only thing, though, is that I used to jump in Houston, where the winters aren't harsh at all. Now I live in a state that gets much colder, and I'm a big weenie when it comes to the cold. Guess I'll just have to suck it up.
Brumby 0 #6 October 6, 2004 I do have to stress that peterlee isnt that bad. Yes, sometimes things are a little slow moving but the weekend gone i done 5 jumps! Not too bad like considering the weather we have been having

I managed 12 jumps in three days at Langar this summer. Something of a personal record, but that's not saying a lot at my experience.
GeordieSkydiver 0 #8 October 6, 2004 Thanks lads and lasses, I got a question though, whats the opening hours like over the winter in the UK? I guess I could go down to Netheravon (I am in the Army) and jump, but its a hell of a way to travel from East Anglia (where I work) or Newcastle (where I live). How many jumps do people get over the winter in the UK, I've got to stay in the sport this time, and that means staying current. flylikeahandbag 0 #9 October 15, 2004 Its all dependent on the weather. If the right conditions allow you can easily get enough jumps in over a weekend to keep you current. Opening hours at Peterlee are normally Wed and Fri afternoons plus all day Sat and Sun from 0830 to 2030 or Sunset, whichever is sooner and bank holiday Mondays. There are other dropzones in the UK which operate 6 or 7 days a week. Hibaldstow for example Expect periods where you might be waiting around waiting for a break in the weather. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- http://www.ukskydiver.co.uk
