Lucie813 0 #8 October 19, 2004 Hello, Catherine - I hail from Longwood and am also a newbie - one jump so far! I'm glad to hear you're enjoying your experience so much. Would you tell me about your AFF training when you have a moment?
Mogelberg 0 #9 October 19, 2004 Hey there! Presently in Copenhagen Denmark, but will be in Florida in January and February. Just posted a question on one of these forums and asked for good advise. Perhaps you can give me some pointers? I'm a member of the Danish equivalent of the De Land skydiving club and wouldn't want to be anywhere else (in Denmark, at least). Lovely bug, this skydiving bug, right?! Am a PADI divemaster myself... Blue skies Lars

Catherines 0 #11 October 19, 2004 If you come to Flordia you have to dive at Deland and its one of the premier places to jump. If you need a room I have one I rent out with internet, phone and cable tv at very reasonable rate. Skydivers only. I live 5 mins from the Dropzone. My contact details are in my profile. Cathy also check out my website www.blueskydive.net The only way is down.
Lucie813 0 #12 October 20, 2004 Thank you for the kind words and offer! I thought about taking my first jump at Deland, but could have sworn their web site said they didn't do tandems - essentially that they "didn't believe in them." How many AFF classes have you taken? What kinds of things have you covered? Do you find it difficult?
Mogelberg 0 #13 October 20, 2004 That sounds great! Sounds like Deland is the place to be. I will contact you when I get a little closer to the trip! Till then you can check www.prankster.dk It's all in Danish, but the videos speak for themselves, right. We just made the site and will be adding much more soon. It must have been another dz, Deland does tandems all day long and has a page on the website devoted to it. In fact, one of the pioneers in tandem jumps and the modern day skydiving rig, Bill Booth, has his factory just down the road from the dropzone. She is Da Man, and you better not mess with Da Man, because she will lay some keepdown on you faster than, well, really fast. ~Billvon
Catherines 0 #15 October 21, 2004 Well you only do one classroom in AFF and thats part of the first day. By the end of the day you jump with two instructors and demonstrate that you can do saftey touches to your main chute pull and be altitude aware. Plus demonstrate a safe landing. Second time out you are still with two instructors but this time they get you to do small turns but they still hold on to you, plus you still must show saftey touches, altitude awareness and safe landing. Third time out you have to demonstrate safety touches and they let you go for first time to see if you can hold a heading without losing balance, plus safe landing, Fourth time out you now with just one instructor and doing turns left and right and forward movement. Then safe landing Fifth time out you are going to be jumping out solo with instructor following and demonstrating 360 turns to left and right and forward motion. I failed this 3 times and passed fouth time I had difficulties with holding my heading. I am now going for my 6th exam which is backward flips with two 360 turns one to left one to right and flare forward. Once I complete this I have just one more exam to pass before I can jump by myself. Deland is home to Tandem and I have seen so many since I have been here but if I was you go straight for the AFF and enjoy skydiving with you in control, much more fun. The only way is down. Randy_H 0 #17 October 27, 2004 Hi Catherines, I too am a total newbie, and I am also taking my AFF in DeLand, since I live in Longwood. The past two weekends have been beautiful weather for skydiving in DeLand! I completed my AFF Level 1 skydive last Saturday after crabbing across the LZ and landing pretty hard on the runway! I will be doing my level 2 this Saturday. I agree about DeLand being one of the best skydive centers around. Who could deny the home of team Magik and the incredibly agile Rickster! Plus, a very diverse culture with a nice mix of Europeans, Aussies, and Americans. Good Luck and I will see you in the skies!010010010110010101100001011101000111000001110101011100110111001101111001

Randy_H 0 #19 December 24, 2004 I will miss you Catherine. You told me about the horrible things that had happened in your past, but nothing is worth what you have done. You've hurt a lot of people who were friends by your selfish action. You kept saying you were going to do it, and you finally did. I guess you got what you wanted. We, the ones who knew you, will always love you and miss having you around. You were (and still are) a true friend. I will miss banging down beers with you at the bar, I will miss sharing our skydiving stories, I will miss you yelling at me about scratching your helmet, I will miss your different takes on things, I will miss your sense of humor, I will miss seeing you on a load, I will miss your glowing face, I will miss someone who had so much to give, most of all, I will miss someone who was a true friend. Rest in peace, Catherine. Peace is what you finally got.... Love you always, and I will miss you!
