FlyBye 0 #1 February 4, 2005 Whats up everyone? I just started jumping in August and am trying to get my A license this winter despite the cold, crappy, cloudy, windy weather here. I just managed to get a rig together and am looking forward to flying it this weekend (I Hope). I have already learned quite a bit just checking out these forums. Looking forward to picking up as much as I can about this new way of life I jumped into. Is there anything I should know about landing in snow? Does it throw off your depth perception, harm the canopy, any tips?

Peej 0 #4 February 4, 2005 Howsit Joe, welcome to the forums! You'll learn loads and meet so many people hanging around here but allow me to throw the patented Aggie Dave disclaimer in (you'll meet him soon enough): Always, always, check with your instructors about any of the advice you receive on dz.com, other that, have fun! skymama 37 #5 February 4, 2005 Welcome to the forums! QuoteIs there anything I should know about landing in snow? Does it throw off your depth perception, harm the canopy, any tips? Being a southern girl, I haven't personally jumped in snow, but I have heard that it throws off your depth perception. Since your jump numbers are low, please talk to one of the instructors at your dz about it before you get in the plane. She is Da Man, and you better not mess with Da Man, because she will lay some keepdown on you faster than, well, really fast. ~Billvon
FlyBye 0 #6 February 4, 2005 Thanks, I planned on asking an instructor, but my dz has been closed for January an are only open on weekends so I was trying to get some pre-emptive input on the subject. I've been dying to get up ever since I picked up my rig at the end of December.

Speard some stuff around in the landing area to give you visual references...and as always do not look down but out.... It does not harm the canopy BUT before you take it in to pack.. shake it out to gt as much of the snow out of it that you can.. and at the end of the day.. do not pack it.. leave it out so it can dry.. and make sure it IS DRY before you pack it for any amount of time. If you think its damp.. just leave it unpacked until it is dry. Have I emphasized the dry part enough yet
 FlyBye 0 #10 February 5, 2005 Thanks for the heads up.
