Never Jumped But thought DZ.com good place to start (DC)

Recommended Posts

Hey my name is B.J.

I am a 21 year old kid starting a accounting career in Alexandria, VA.

But none of that matters

I have never jumped or even researched the idea; but I know I want to.

Can anyone steer me in the direction of people in/around DC that jump, best place to go first, or any other first timer info.

Peace

BJ

Welcome to the forums! :)here, you can research dz's that are close-by DC and this page has info about getting started.

Basically, all you need to do is pick a dz, give them a call and tell them you'd like to do a tandem jump. The dz will walk you through all the rest of it, but let us know if you have specific questions before your jump. Have fun!

Or if you like you could dive straight into a training program.

Most people start out doing tandem as AFF (a training program where you jump with your own parachute but with 2 instructors) is a lot to deal with on the first jump.

Still a lot of fun and gets you started on progression towards being a licenced skydiver.

Just something to think about.

I live in the DC area. I started at Skydivedelmarva for my first 3 AFF jumps. The instructors there are pretty good and there isnt alot of the "Skygod" mentality there. There is also Skydive orange which will be a little closer for you. They are busier and have a talented group of free flyers.

Hi B.J

I did a tandem first just to see what the skydiving was like. I had planned to do a static line course, but after the taste of freefall with the tandem skydive, i did 1 static line jump and am now saving for AFF. :S
From what i have read, there are a lot of people that do aff straight away and get on fine - personal preference i guess! :)Whatever you do, you will love it!!!

I've jumped at both Skydive Delmarva (my home DZ) and Orange.
While Orange is a lot closer it's a pain in the @$$ to get to on the weekends, especially if you want to go down on Friday after work...I-95 sucks!
Anyway, I love the folks at Delmarva. I did all my training there and can't say a bad thing about them. The DZO, Brian, is great!!
I did find that the folks at Delmarva were more welcoming of newbies but the parties at Orange are killer too!
Hope you decide to take up the sport...just be prepared to get hooked after your first jump...

What up buddy?
I was living in Georgetown this summer, working in tysons corner, VA. I was off student status and needed to finish all my A license stuff. I'd say your best bet is to go with Skydive Orange. They have some pretty experienced people there, are usually flying, they have some good stuff to play with B|. Also, they are very conservative with students and do a great and very thorough job training em. They are kinda expensive, but if you can afford a little extra dough, it's worth it for the extra attention. Stick around at night on the weekends if you wanna party... Anyway, before i left for DC, i asked the instructors at the two main DZs I jump at, and they both said (independently) to go to Skydive Orange, and after being there I'll have to agree with 'em. Good luck and clear skies amigo!!!
So there I was...
