Nome's Newest Newbie

:) I just did my ground school and first 2 static line jumps today in Nome, Tx at GroundRush and absolutely had an awesome time. I did a tandem in 1998 in Beaumont, Tx with some friends from Baton Rouge, La and had it videoed. Moved to Tx in May and just unpacked the box with the video Tues. found the video, watched it and called till I got someone on the tele and bailed today to the DropZone. In a split second find I have found a new lease on life in Nome.

Wow! I used to instruct at Ground rush. Glad they moved to the new location. Are they still jumping Totsi? The light blue 182? Don't think you will meet farmer Mcnasty there.

It is a blue Cessna 182, don't know its name yet. All the people in Nome have been really real though. All the neighbors are known except a few. But I guess I can take care of that one..lol. But the weather is going to be great today again so I am going back out to Nome in a little while to do 2 more jumps hopefully.:P But you need to come out there...

Why I think you might be right there SkyMamma! It is rather strange from unpacking a box someone ends up over 4000 feet in the air, but I think I really like it up there. I went out today but the winds were too high so it was a wash on jumping. But sometimes I guess that is the way it is what it is.. And to those looking for the Beaumont DZ GroundRush is located in Nome, Tx now. 409-253-2513 I think is the new tele but if you call the old # it gives you the new number so don't quote me on that phone #.

Could be worse, someone could have asked for change and I would have had to give them nipples and dimes in change today if the rain wouldn't have ruined the day...:P Because it was rather chilly outside....But by the end of the week I just might be on a nice warm carribean island St. Croix sunning on the beach if things go my way with work.:P Blue skies and crystal blue water two of the best things in life.....

Ok so the crystal blue waters are out..[:/] But the weather is supposed to be beautiful in Nome, Tx at the dz for sunday.:P Much better option I think than the Carribean. So if any of you guys are looking for a place to enjoy a nice sunday of jumping Nome is the place this weekend.

I made the dz twice today!!! Did 2 PRCP's on SL 3-4 and I feel so estatic that I made the dz twice...:D:P I didn't jump my 4th jump in the rig I have been using 195sqft as it got Chute Jacked (CJ:Chute Jacker you know who you are) lol.. so had to use Rig 2 which was 100sqft larger (265sqft) or so I was informed or misinformed..:S For the first time going out the door anxieties kicked in a little. My JM said Gear Fear! I and he knew when I looked back it just wasn't my normal body language
I guess I will have to just get over that mentally..Any suggestions you guys' have I would love to hear them .....I never had a problem with exiting before I knew my rig was not the one I have been using.[:/][:/] But I did have a pretty landing and soft like Charmin....:P:P

The MOJO was just not there today from the beginning. Had one good jump and landing, the arch and the second jump and landing was good. But a little problem trying to get at the PRCP rag on the 2nd jump led to back to statement #1 Bad MOJO. My exit was just not my usual and so between My JM's and Myself decided I will do two more PRCP's and then my live pull...Rather get it right before I totally get on my own:P:P

on changing rigs, I changed rigs constantly throughout my students progression, I did get nervous a few times bouncing around but that anxiety went away after I took the packing class, I then understood both the rigs I was jumping. I encourage you to take the packing class as soon as you can, the better you understand the equipment and how it works the more confident you will be.

Thanks for packing class idea.. I watched the Sr. Rigger pack a tandem and he was explaining everything to me and it helped a little. My JM yesterday started showing me a little about packing too.. If I didn't have to go out of town to work today I might have just gone out to watch canopy work of everyone coming in/packing all day. :D But alas have a 10-12 hour drive to a job in the middle of nowhere Texas..:P:P But will be back for next weekend and do my jumps over and watch some packing...Thanks for the idea on the packing class...:P

Until you buy your own gear, and get off student status your gear will probably be changing on a regular basis, you will be on student gear until you get liscensed and i don't know about your DZ, if they have rental gear or not but you will be downsizing until you reach a certain size that will be suited best for your skill level and probably stay there for awhile, I have changed rigs 5 times since I started jumping so I know the feeling of having something different on your back, but as soon as you learn about your gear and trust all the equipment you are using you will lose those anxieties, it will come with time and experience, just as everything else in this sport, the more you jump the more comfortable you will become, so jump on!!

Ok. Although I am at jump 7 SL and not at the live pull I feel so much better after jumping today...Next weekend I should do my live pull... My JM and the ground crew on the radio said my canopy control was awesome.so.... Anyways, just got in from the dz and it is really late.. Got to meet someone very intresting though today.. Dewayne Dubrett?? He base jumped Angel Falls and was like on National Geographic or something like that.. He was like so REAL it was awesome..

The Afternoon was awesome, to bad you guys from Lafayette, La. didn't show you missed a beautiful day in the neighborhood!!!!! Sunny and blue skies along with nice winds...:P:P

Oh yeah,, Hey Sparky, me and the pilot CJ short for Chute Jacker dont ask, I am going to fight for Rig 1 as I am so much more comfy in it. I f I have to duct tape his ass over the rig, "It's On Dude". :P:P Nothing like a good duct taping over a comfy rig..lol

Well I found a neat dz up here in the NE. Kutztown Skydiving in Kutztown, PA. Beautiful drive in from the Jersey/Philly area not really that far either about an hour and 20 minutes..

The people are great and they offer IAD training. So If you are looking for a quaint dz for some blue skies and fun up in the PA/Jersey/Delaware area that is a great place to go...
