Hi from a newby screamin' for Freedom

Hi, I'm new to skydiving and this forum. I'm looking forward to great times and great people.
I did my first tandem in March, a present from my son. What a GIFT! I have always wanted to skydive, among many other daring adventures. My son is in the 82nd Airborne and when he joined I was so excited for him and told him to take me with him in spirit on his first jump. Every jump he would call me and my heart would just race. So His gift was quite special for me, and him. He is a Jump Master now in the army and after taking me for a tandem and watching, he has decided he will also go for non military skydiving training. WOOHOO! ME TOO.
I know, I know, your asking why I'm not trained yet.
Timing and money I guess.
But, I am going again this month with my friend and my daughter.
Here's the thing, I know what training and eqip. costs, but what are the expences of keeping up with jumps and equip. on a regular basis costs? I sure would appreciate an approx. round a bout on this.
I'm hoping my daughter and I can do training together. From there I hope to get the whole famn damily doing it together. Camp, jump, jump, jump bonfire!!!! YEAH!!!

Welcome to the wonderful world of skydiving. I liked your post so much I had to respond. Skydiving opened up another part of life for me, with jumping and the great people I jump with every week. Take it slow, above all be safe for you and others, and don't forget to smile. :)
Ordinary's..... just not good enough today.

Thanks All for your warm welcome. I'm really looking forward to learning more.
Hey Skymama, thanks for the info, I really needed to hear that I can afford it after the initial shock.

You know what you love most by the time and/or money you invest.

The family thing is cool. so you can talk to them and they understand. None of family gets it except my dad. We both started on my 18th b-day. I kept going and my dad got to jump 85 before some health issues came up. He wishes he could still jump but doesnt want to risk being really beat down. See you out there sometime and be safe.

Hello and welcome to this great world of skydiving. I can relate in so many ways with your son, since I am also in the Army and that's how I started. After my first deployment I decided life is too short so I started skydiving. Now I have my own gear and it feels great.
It is pretty expensive to get through the training and license but after that it is not expensive at all, well worth the money.
The people in the skydiving world are really friendly and no matter where you go you will be welcomed.

Hi Rookie,

Family understanding helps for sure. I'm so glad your dad got to experience it. He'll always have that!
Ok, so I'm no whipper-snapper so to speak, hey but no one has told me or convinced me of that yet!! My kids know how athletic and bold I am, and I love living life. I see it this way: If your not enjoying life your doing it wrong. It's all in the journey.
My husband will never jump. No desire to. He says "who in their right mind would jump out of a perfectly good airplane"? I said " I have never claimed to be in right mind"! He's cool with it for me though.

Safe always!

My son loves it. He is coming up on his 4 year mark, went before the board and will be promoted next month to Staff Sgt. He just spilled some news on me recently. He has a slot and will begin the latter part of this year his Green Beret training! AAAHHH!!! I do beleive I'd rather go through skydive training!!!
