billvon 3,070 #1 May 8, 2004 If you were going to buy a new container tomorrow, what size main vs reserve would you buy? I'm asking because I have a feeling that the paradigm in place when I started (that your main is always larger than your reserve) has now completely reversed itself, and most people nowadays will get a main smaller than their reserve. Personally, I'd go for around a 110 main, 135-150 reserve.
indyz 1 #2 May 8, 2004 150-170 reserve, main in the same range.

PhreeZone 20 #4 May 8, 2004 I'll be keeping my PD160 till some one refuses to make me a container to pack it into. I've got a 136 main and probally will one day go with a 120... but that 160R is staying on my back.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
slotperfect 7 #5 May 8, 2004 I reckon I'm still swimming in the old paradigm . . . My main is a 190, my reserve a 176.Arrive Safely John
Nullified 0 #6 May 8, 2004 My mains are a Lightning 143 and a Sabre2 170. My reserve is a 181, which I've had the pleasure of flying twice. I could see myself eventually getting down to a 135 main, but I like my 181 reserve, and I don't think I'll ever go smaller than 160. I just don't see any good reason to. Stay safe, Mike If you're gonna' be stupid, well, then you're most likely stupid.

pilotdave 0 #8 May 8, 2004 I switched when I bought my second rig. Started with a 150 main and 120 reserve. Now 135 main and 143 reserve. Dave
ianmdrennan 2 #9 May 8, 2004 90 main - pdr 113 Doing it again, I'd probably take a larger reserve, once size up MAYBE 2. Blue ones, IanPerformance Designs Factory Team
Lindsey 0 #10 May 8, 2004 I'm planning on buying new gear this summer. Planning on a Safire2 119 or Sabre2 120 with a PD 126R. I had an FX110 with a Microraven 135. hookitt 1 #11 May 8, 2004 Current set up. Main: 78 Reserve: 106 If I were to purchase all new equipment, the main would be about the same. For a reserve I'd go with a minimum of 113. Something slightly bigger would be preferable. My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto
beej 0 #12 May 8, 2004 Raven IV 282 main and reserve, will be downsizing main to a zp 230 ish soon, but keeping the 282 Raven reserve... ---------------------------------------------------- If the shit fits - wear it (blues brothers)--
Jimbo 0 #13 May 8, 2004 I've got a PD160 that I've had the pleasure of putting one jump on. My current canopy is a 159 and my next canopy is likely to be in the 150 range, I'm sticking with the 160 reserve. - Jim"Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed. Miami 0 #14 May 8, 2004 If I were to buy a new container I would keep my main the same size at 78 and bump the reserve up to a 150.Miami
jdfreefly 1 #15 May 8, 2004 My current config is a 113 PDR for the reserve and a 119 Crossfire 2. If I were buying a new rig and money was no issue, I would stick with the 113 PDR and would probably buy a velocity 111 or 103. Or an icarus gx 111, but since they don't sell it I guess I will have to switch to PD for my main :( Methane Freefly - got stink?
rmsmith 1 #16 May 8, 2004 Well, I have three "near-new" rigs in the closet and no time to use them right now with Homeland Security improvements in-progress. And, to answer your question: -- 1: Racer, PD-253r, Sabre2-210 2: Racer, PD-235r, Crossfire2-180 3: Racer, PD-218r, Crossfire2-149 -- BTW, I'm 6'2", wear a 48-inch jacket, have a 19-inch MLW, and I'm 240-lbs out the door! RyanofOZ 0 #17 May 8, 2004 I fly a 210 Spectre main and just bought a new Smart 190 reserve. I will downsize the main to a safire2 190 by the end of the year so I guess I'll be 190-190 then No matter how small a canopy I ever own, I think I will stick to 190 reserve seeing as I am 240 out the door.Oz

FreeFlyFridge 0 #24 May 8, 2004 Crossfire2 119 Main - Paratec Speed2000 135 Reserve (no rides) I´m´thinking of upsizing the reserve to a 150, which I had before but for some reason (because smaller rigs look better , ahh... who cares about having trouble and being low under the reserve, I can handle that, but my rig should look fancy when I impact! ) I took the smaller reserve form my new rig, even though the 150 would fit into it just fine! I´m with ya bodypilot1, I just can´t see a reason why anyone would have a smaller reserve than main! Except for the smaller and fancier looking rig! But thats no reason that´s a fashion statement!------------------------------------------------------ ROCK ON,.....HARD! Proud European!!
