Stealth 0 #1 May 13, 2004 I am going to buy a new canopy. I am decide to stop on 119-120 sqft for a while. Now it is hard for me to make choice between Safire2 and Sabre2 similar sized. Unfortunately where I live and jump I can't take the demo, so I need additional information about flying characteristic both of these canopys. Please share your expirience what I should expect from Safire2 and Sabre2 and differences between them.
piisfish 140 #2 May 13, 2004 from my experience with the Safire2, you will get long openings which I like, very nice forward speed, good flare power, very good flight on rears.scissors beat paper, paper beat rock, rock beat wingsuit - KarlM
Staso 0 #3 May 13, 2004 i beleive icarus has 30 days guarantee - you can buy a canopy, jump it for a month and return it. i had about 250-ish (?) jumps on safire2 and i was very happy about that canopy. from my experience it will have a bit higher forward speed then the same size sabre2, but i could be subjective. if you can, try both and see which one you like more. my vote would go to safire. stan. -- it's not about defying gravity; it's how hard you can abuse it. speed skydiving it is ... bkdice 0 #4 May 13, 2004 I just demoed both and really liked both a lot. Both open very soft and slow - though the Safire2 is probably a little softer. I experienced mostly on heading openings with both. I did get a few 90s. Both are very responsive to toggle input and fun to fly. Reasonably light front riser pressure (though I don't have much to compare it to) Both flare nice - though I prefer the Sabre2 flare - which was the deciding factor in what I decided to order. (I currently fly a Sabre 150 - I demoed a Sabre2 150, and Safire2 149 lightly loaded at .96) I do not do high performance landings. I hope to learn them at some point, but for now, I wanted a canopy that opened soft, was fun to fly, and land. Both of these fit what I wanted, but I prefer the Sabre2 at this point in time. When I'm ready to go smaller, I will demo the Safire2 again! If you can make it to a boogie or find a way to demo them, you should. I thought for sure I'd end up with a Safire2, but I was wrong. Hope that helped a little bit. Oh - and do some searches for both on these forums. They have both been discussed a lot. There's also good info on PD's and Icarus' sites. http://www.performancedesigns.com/docs/Sabre2-Flight.pdf http://www.icaruscanopies.com/canopies/Safire/index.htm
AndyMan 7 #5 May 13, 2004 Demo them both and decide for yourself. Both are very good canopies, but when you ask people whats better 90% of the time they'll answer by telling you that the one they jump is the best. They are both very good, but have some subtle (and some not-so-subtle) differences. It's best to find them out for yourself. Make sure to demo to jump the same sized canopies when you do the demo. _Am__ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

Probably because he's in a country that demo's are not easily accessible. Shitty situation - of course I don't think he should be going to a 120 either, but that's another topic altogether (again) that I'm tired of debating Back to the post, I've know people who like and fly both types. If I had to buy one without demoing first, I'd take PD hands down. They've never let me down and I know they put everything they can into their products (Not saying icarus don't, I've just never owned an icarus canopy and had to deal with customer service, etc). darkwing 5 #7 May 13, 2004 I apologize for making your problem worse, but another highly regarded option in the same category is the Aerodyne Pilot. Lots of posts here with views on it, expecially with respect to the Sabre2. -- Jeff My Skydiving History

I agree - I demoed both and decided on the Sabre2 but for really personal reasons, I have nothing against the Safire2 it just isn't for me - but there are lots of people for whom 'it is'. tashDon't ever save anything for a special occasion. GroundZero 0 #11 May 13, 2004 You can demo next week at both Stupino and Kolomna... And you might want to consider the Fusion or Nitron also... I'll have demos of both when I visit the dzs next week... (Red Star Boogie)... Also Kolla From PD and Aubrey from Aerodyne will be there with Sabre2 and Pilot Demos. WoooHOOO... just about a week, and Russia here we come! Chris Precision
JJohnson 0 #12 May 13, 2004 I jump neither canopy but would choose the Sabre2. I had problems with Icarus years ago and won't deal with them anymore. I never had problems with PD. But the key word in this thread is DEMO, DEMO, DEMO....JJ "Call me Darth Balls"
