krkeenan 0 #1 May 13, 2004 I realize that "freefly-friendly gear" means slightly different things to different people. My question is about velcro riser covers. Even though tuck tabs seem to be better, does anyone see a problem with properly-maintained velcro as a riser cover closure ? kevin====================== Seasons don't fear the Reaper, nor do the Wind, the Sun, or the Rain... councilman24 37 #3 May 13, 2004 Not all tuck tabs are created equal and not all velcro cover designs (and "velcro") is created equal. Some tuck tabs can't stay in place on the ground, let alone in the air. A some particular individual rigs have so much tension on the velro covers that they don't want to stay closed either. This question would be design specific and rig specific. Not all rigs with properly maintained velcro would be good and not all rigs with tuck tabs would be good.I'm old for my age. hookitt 1 #4 May 13, 2004 As stated in the Freefly forum where this is also posted.... Yes there's a problem with it. It peels open. It's not freefly friendly. What rig in particular are you referring too?My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto
tetra316 0 #5 May 13, 2004 I jumped a vector II for a while with velco riser covers. Just had the velco replaced before I started free flying though. They never seemed a problem and rarely came open. Did have a premature though from the pc coming out of the boc but thats another topic I would just replace the velcro and and have a rigger check the entire rig before you take it up. Just meant it did not have anything to do with the topic of riser covers.

cgray 0 #9 May 24, 2004 I also recently went from a Vector to an Infinity. It is a huge improvement over the Vector and is a great rig overall. CG Skydive VA"Very Dangerous, You Go First!"
xsynergist 0 #10 May 24, 2004 I don't want to get off topic, but, can you describe to me in what way(s) it is a huge improvement? I am just starting out with an eye on freeflying and all opinions are valued. Thanks!------------------------------------------------ Why get married? Just find a woman you hate and buy her a house. pilotdave 0 #11 May 24, 2004 I THINK (hope!) he meant an improvement over the vector 2, not the current version. The old vectors had a lot of velcro, which can open in freefall when worn out, exposing the risers, bridle, pin, etc. The vector 3 probably has the best riser and pin protection of any rig.
