Newbie with question

I'm new here. I was wondering if there is any way a 13 year old kid in California can learn to skydive. I can't think of anything more fun than throwing myself out of a plane into freefall! Anyone know of places to learn near Santa Barbara, CA, USA?

Other than reading about it right now, I guess you could play Grand Theft Auto III and enter the cheat code for parachute then steal a plane then jump. Its actually pretty cool.Continue to read about the sport and try to get a tandem!!!Thats my advice.

There's always the wind tunnel, too. If you're close enough to Perris, your 13-year-old can start learning to fly there. It's not the same thing, but it's a beginning!

Thanks for the help. I don't have a DZ near me that has an age limit under 18. I've done the wind tunnel thing in Las Vegas and that was the most fun I've ever had.

I will back to the forums in several years! Oh, before I leave, would it be a good idea to learn to paraglide first? I know there are a few great schools near me and I live in one of the best places for it (Santa Barbara, CA) , and there is no real age requirement!

I'm not sure you'll have much more luck finding someone to train or rent gear from than you would jumping out of an airplane. You could maybe go out of the USA, to the Czech Republic or something, but that's really horrible advice.

Why not just become a tunnel rat for the next 5 years? If you get good enough, it's a career path to tunnel instructor. I wish someone had told me that was an option when I was young. Though it probably wasn't, when I was young. It makes a nice lead-in to skydiving too. And if you decide you don't like skydiving you can still be an awesome tunnel rat.
