dandandan 0 #1 November 7, 2007 hey guys, So I've had this account for the past year or so, reading and researching everything I could before I started AFF this weekend. I made it through level 3 in one weekend at skydive city in Z-hills, I would have done more if it hadnt been so windy and I had more money on me. So now that im actually in this game, does anyone have any suggestions as to gear i should look at/consider, (consider im 5'10" 160) and if you have anything you think i could take off your hands send me a PM or email me at disturbedmst@aol.com . -Darby
andm31 0 #2 November 8, 2007 Really cool and welcome to this great sport (even though over here it's below freezing all the time and we probably won't be jumping until March again... bummer hehe)Blue skies! Peej 0 #3 November 8, 2007 Hey Darby, There is plenty of info already on the site about gear for newer jumpers. My advice is to get through AFF, do a few more jumps and then around 50 jumps, start looking for gear. Depending on your exit weight and skill level you will progress very quickly through your initial canopies, the 265's, 230's, 210's, etc. So spend the money on getting your jump numbers up in the mean time. Here is some search results, read the threads and make an informed decision from there but ALWAYS check with your instructors before buying anything. Here is a great article by our very own Skybytch: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/safety/detail_page.cgi?ID=43 And those search results i was talking about: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?do=search_results;search_forum_id=;search_string=newbie%20gear;search_user_username=;search_user_id=;search_time=;search_forum_type=all;search_forum=all;search_fields=sb;search_type=AND;page=1;mh=25; Stay safe out there Advertisio Rodriguez / Sky
skymama 37 #4 November 8, 2007 Welcome to the forums! Oh, and if you're free this weekend, come on up to the Hog Flop boogie in Palatka. You'll meet a bunch of FL jumpers there. She is Da Man, and you better not mess with Da Man, because she will lay some keepdown on you faster than, well, really fast. ~Billvon
boffin 0 #5 November 8, 2007 definatly get your jumps in on the rental gear first. A rig is a big investment and you dont want to buy a student rig that you are going to want to downsize in 50-100 jumps and then have to start the search for gear all over again. I know how exciting it is when you first get into the sport (im only a few jumps in after aff) and you just want to but everything. I would just suggest things that you can use for quite some time, like your own helmet and altimeter.
