Peej 0 #2 December 14, 2007 welcome to the forums bud! This is one of the most rewarding sports in the entire world. Why don't you look at doing something like a tandem? It's a pretty safe and really cool way to get introduced. And i'm sure jumping over costa rica must be beautiful! Advertisio Rodriguez / Sky
RichardBlank 0 #3 December 14, 2007 Thanks for the reply Advertisio . You make good sense. I may think about it. One step at a time. Richard

RichardBlank 0 #6 December 14, 2007 Nice to meet you dannydan . I always enjoy the blank jokes. It is a good ice breaker! When you wife and daughter visit Costa Rica, I may have some good suggestions for them. Plenty to do and for a lot less money than you would expect. One day I'll jump. At least I am making a start by coming here. Richard

taylor.freefall 0 #8 December 14, 2007 I just had a thourght, you could try a wind tunnel first, thats the same as jumping. Well it feels the same anyway, jumping is slightly scarier as it feels "real", if that makes sense, but the wind tunnel is definitely the same sensation, hey and bloody good fun!! RichardBlank 0 #9 December 14, 2007 taylor.freefall To me, that makes the most sense. I am not a scared, well just a little. But the payoff I hear is priceless. People claim that it really makes you feel alive. Thanks for the advice. Richard
taylor.freefall 0 #10 December 14, 2007 Dont worry about being scared, I am, and I mean a lot, most beginners are, I've heard it takes a while for it to fade. I thourght tandem was more scary than solo for some reason. If you do a search on the subject you'll see yourself what I mean, and good luck!!
RichardBlank 0 #11 December 14, 2007 REAL MEN ARE NOT SCARED. Just kidding, I am right behind you all the way... Richard
Shepp 0 #12 December 14, 2007 Hi Richard, welcome! I hope you decide to join in the fun! I'd also recommend the tandem jump. It is a great way to experience the thrill with very little training/stress. Be careful though - do it once and there's a 99.9% chance you'll become totally obsessed! Shepp Experience is a hard teacher because she gives the test first, the lesson afterward. Accidents don't just happen. They must be carelessly planned. grannyinthesky 0 #13 December 14, 2007 Hi Richard, Go for the tandem!! I'm a 57 year old grandmother and did my first jump, a tandem, in October. A few hours later, I was calling the DZ to find out about training to get my license. I've done two AFF jumps and they were even more fantastic. A little scary, yes, but the excitement is unbelievable. Go for it!"safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! skymama 37 #14 December 14, 2007 QuoteREAL MEN ARE NOT SCARED. Just kidding, I am right behind you all the way... I would bet the majority of us had quite a bit of apprehension on our first jump. There's no way I would have gone had I not been strapped to the tandem master, I would have totally chickened out once I saw how high we were. I was only going to do one tandem but it was so exhilarating I had to go back for more, and more, and more...She is Da Man, and you better not mess with Da Man, because she will lay some keepdown on you faster than, well, really fast. ~Billvon
grannyinthesky 0 #15 December 14, 2007 Quote I would have totally chickened out once I saw how high we were. I really wasn't all that nervous until I got a look out that open door. The look on the face in my video really showed what was going on in my head. But once out the door-----oh yeah-----"safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! RichardBlank 0 #16 December 14, 2007 I can't stop to think of the Cheers episode when Sam, Norm, Cliff and Woody wouldn't jump. Or at least, Woody wouldn't lie anymore.
